Removal and Installation

COMPRESSOR REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION

Disconnect/Remove
- battery ground lead




- splashguard under engine.

Remove lower bolt in generator support. Slacken upper drive belt






Disconnect compressor
Plug pipe and compressor connections immediately.





NOTE A new type of compressor coupling was introduced on cars produced as from week 13 1993 till compressor (on left in illustration).


Caution: It is extremely important that the following compressor removal procedure be followed exactly, otherwise problems may occur when the compressor is lowered.

Remove/disconnect




- hose holder under compressor
- electromagnetic clutch connector, green lead (1)
- compressor front mounting bolts.

Unscrew both rear mounting bolts until heads are bearing against plate at rear. Wedge upper bolt in position with screwdriver if bolt is difficult to hold against plate.


NOTE: Rear bolts cannot be removed.


Move compressor bracket forward/upward against shoulder on mounting bracket, tilt unit towards right and lift clear.

INSTALLATION

NOTE: Ensure that all open ends are sealed when installing unit.

Install:




- compressor and bracket
- electromagnetic clutch connector, green lead (1).


NOTE: Rear bolts must be unscrewed as far as possible, otherwise it will not be possible to install compressor in position.


Tighten front and rear mounting bolts.

Unseal open ends




Reconnect pipes to compressor.
Install lower mounting bolt and nut in generator support. Tighten upper bolt.






Install drive belt

Install/Reconnect




- splashguard under engine
- battery ground lead.

Fill A/C system with refrigerant.
