Steering: Description and Operation

The steering system is servo operated. The main components are the steering gear and the power steering pump.

The steering gear is of the rack and pinion type and grease lubricated.

The power steering pump is of the vane type and belt driven from the engine crankshaft.

The pump is only available with an integrated fluid reservoir (Separate fluid reservoir model shown).

The steering system layout is displayed in the illustration above. The illustration displays a fixed steering column (Tilt wheel is standard equipment). Steering wheel movement is transferred to the wheels via the steering column (1), steering gear (2), tie rods (5) and steering arms (6).

Wheel deflection is limited by a stop in the steering gear and cannot be adjusted.
