Lower Link, Replacement
TOOL REQUIRED- 999 5577 Compression Tool
- Or Equivalent
REMOVAL
1. Raise The Car.
Position the rear lift arms so they do not obstruct the support arm and the support arm bracket of the vehicle.
2. Support Arm Removal As Follows:
- Remove the wheels. Use of compression tool.
- Install compression tool 999 5577.
Apply the compression tool lightly against the link.
- Remove:
Lower screw on the damper.
Tap off damper from support arm.
Anti-roll bar screws on both sides.
- Press anti-roll bar up so it is freed from the support arm.
3. Press Up Link To Normal Position:
- Secure the compression tool with locking pin.
- Release pressure from hydraulic cylinder.
- Remove:
Support arm screws in front and rear edges.
Unscrew nut in front edge.
Tap support arm off the wheel bearing housing.
- The nut in front edge.
- Support arm.
4. Remove brake caliper.
- Hang it up with a steel wire.
5. Remove nut to the outer link screw.
- Tap out the screw.
- Use a brass drift.
6. Lower the link and release the puller cylinder.
- Clean contact surfaces for the press tool round the bushing.
7. Replace Outer Bushing As Follows:
- Press out the bushing. Use puller cylinder, counterhold, drift and puller.
- Press in the bushing Use puller cylinder, drift, counterhold with the bevel up and puller.
Press in bushing until drift contacts the wheel bearing housing surface.
8. Inner Bushing Replace.
- The rear axle beam must be taken down from the car to replace the inner link bushing.
9. Remove link from rear axle beam.
10. Press out the bushing.
- Use puller cylinder together with counterhold, drift and puller.
11. Press in the new bushing. Use counterhold, drift, counterhold and puller.
- Press in bushing against the tool face.
INSTALLATION
1. Press Compression Tool Up To Normal Position.
- Install screw with new nut.
Tighten to 80 Nm (63 ft. lbs.).
- Install brake caliper with new screws.
Tighten to 60 Nm (47 ft. lbs.).
2. Install support arm.
- Install all screws but do not tighten.
- Tighten the rear screw.
Tighten to 80 Nm (63 ft. lbs.).
- Tighten front nut.
Tighten to 80 Nm (63 ft. lbs.).
- Tighten remaining screws.
Tighten to 50 Nm (37 ft. lbs.).
3. Install damper (shock absorber):
- Standard dampers:
Compress damper by hand and hook on.
Use new screws.
Tighten to 80 Nm (63 ft. lbs.).
- Self-levelling dampers:
Release pressure from compression tool and install damper.
Push up to normal position.
Use new screws.
Tighten to 80 Nm (63 ft. lbs.).
- Install new screws on the anti-roll bar both sides, do not tighten.
- Remove The Compression Tool.
- Install the wheel.
4. Lower car completely.
- Tighten anti-roll bar screws.
- Tighten to 80 Nm (63 ft. lbs.).
