Suspension: Service and Repair

1. Raise and support vehicle, then remove rear wheels.
2. Remove brake caliper, then hang calipers from springs.
3. Remove brake discs and parking brake shoes, then disconnect parking brake cable from equalizing arms and clips on axle.

4. Loosen torque arms in frame, then disconnect torque arms from axle, Fig 3.
5. Position support fixture tool No. 2714, or equivalent, and a jack under axle and raise rear axle assembly slightly.
6. Remove exhaust pipe, if necessary, then disconnect track rod and speedometer cable.
7. Disconnect propeller shaft, upper torque arm, dampers from lower mountings in support arms, support arm front brackets, then pry support arms loose from front mountings.
8. Remove anti-roll bar, righthand and lefthand support arms, then the rear axle assembly.
9. Reverse procedure to install.

10. Raise and support vehicle, then remove rear wheels, support arm guards and bolts securing support arms at front and rear, Fig 4. .
11. Tap out rear end of support arms from wheel bearing housings.
12. Position support fixture tool No. 5972, or equivalent, and a jack under support arms and lock support arms with fixture arms.
13. Slightly relieve tension on shock absorbers and remove bolts from upper shock mountings, then remove support arms complete with springs and shocks.
14. Remove calipers and secure with wire, then mark relation of propeller shaft to axle flange and disconnect propeller shaft.
15. Position support fixture tool No. 5972, or equivalent, and a jack under axle, remove bolts securing axle to floor and lower axle slightly.
16. Disconnect speedometer cable from inspection cover, then remove screws securing cable to axle.
17. Disconnect parking brake cable, then remove rear axle assembly.
18. Reverse procedure to install.
