Verification of A/C System
VERIFICATION OF A/C SYSTEMStart engine
Turn on A/C system, select highest blower speed, Max. cooling (not "REC" recirculation). Leave front doors or side windows open.
Check if compressor starts. If it does not start, refrigerant might have leaked out.
If the compressor starts then there is refrigerant in the system. Do the following:
- turn off engine
- use the leakage detector and check for leaks
- connect an R12 recycling/filling unit
- evacuate the system of R12 until a negative pressure is reached (approx. 10 min)
- disconnect the filling/recycling unit
- replace any components that indicate leakage (but not if equivalent parts are to be installed from the conversion kit).
If the compressor does not start when checking A/C operation:
- check if there are any visible leaks or other faults on the system. e.g. loose electrical connections etc.
- connect a filling/recycling unit for R12.
- evacuate the system of R12 until a negative pressure is reached (approx. 10 min.)
- disconnect the filling/recycling unit
- replace any leaking components. (but not if equivalent parts are to be installed from the conversion kit).
Note
If the compressor still does not start: Refer to fault tracing sections in Service Manual Section 8 (82-88) Body Fittings, Interior Climate Units 740. 760 1982-19..
