Key Lock Cable Replacement
1993 M/Y 960 series vehicles with automatic transmission will be equipped with a key lock function.
A latching segment is used to prevent movement of the gear selector lever from position P unless the ignition key is in position I or II. The key cannot be turned to position 0 and removed unless the lever is in the P position.
The physical connection between the ignition switch and the gear lever mechanism consists of a cable. (see illustration)
An override function is provided to enable the lever to be shifted from position P if there is no power supply. The ignition key must be in position I or II, and the override button and the release button on the gear lever must be pressed simultaneously.
WARNING:
Caution must be taken when working on SRS equipped cars. Please review warnings on page 37 of TP 31369/1.
