Inspection and Cleaning

INSPECTION AND CLEANING OF ANTENNA MAST




Extend antenna mast fully.

Check:

- that the antenna can be fully extended
- that the antenna has not been bent or otherwise damaged by careless handling




If the antenna mast is damaged, it should be replaced with a new mast kit.

CLEAN ANTENNA MAST.




- Spray complete antenna mast with solvent, WD40. Allow sufficient time for solvent to work.
- Dry antenna mast with cloth.
- Raise and lower antenna mast 4-6 times.
- Spray again, allow sufficient time for spray to work and wipe dry.
- Repeat procedure until mast is completely clean.
- Finally, wipe antenna mast until it is dry and clean.

INSPECTION AND CLEANING OF GUIDE SLEEVE AND ANTENNA MAST




- Undo antenna cap retaining nut. Remove cap.
- Turn on radio.
- Grasp antenna mast.




- Pull out sleeve in antenna tube.
- Clean sleeve internally and externally with a cloth and solvent, WD40.
- Wipe sleeve until dry and clean to ensure satisfactory contact between antenna mast and tube.
- Clean lower section of antenna mast with cloth and solvent, WD40.
- Wipe mast until dry and clean.
- Reinstall antenna mast in tube.

- Reinstall sleeve. Ensure that contact tags on sleeve are bent to maintain contact with both antenna tube and mast.

Two different types of sleeve are used:




Sleeve with one tag (A), in which tag is first bent outward against tube and then inward against mast. Sleeve with two tags (B), in which one tag is bent inward and second tag is bent outward.
