Steering Wheel Module Replacement for 960 M/Y 95

Recall Label:





Vehicles which have already received a new driver-side air bag module are identified by a white label on the driver's side "B" pillar below the SRS label. See example shown. Check for presence of this label before commencing work.

IMPORTANT!
The battery must not be connected when the steering wheel module is removed or replaced.

WARNING!
Under no circumstances may an ohmmeter or other live measuring instrument be used to measure the resistance in the steering wheel module or wiring while the module is connected, as this may cause it to activate.

Preparations





- Switch off the ignition

- Disconnect the battery negative lead

- Before removing, mark module with an "X" using, e.g., red magic marker, yellow tire crayon, etc.

Remove the steering wheel module

Steering Wheel Module Removal:





- Remove the steering wheel module by removing the two torx-screws at the back of the steering wheel.

Turn the steering wheel (90° in both directions) to access the screws.

- Disconnect the connector and lift off the steering wheel module.

Install the new steering wheel module

- Record serial number of new module on R.O., e.g., A164285006 found on orange label.

Steering Wheel Module Installation:





- Place the bottom of the steering wheel module on the steering wheel (1).

- Connect the connector (2).

- install the steering wheel module (3). Check that the wiring is not trapped.

- Fasten the steering wheel module from behind with torx screws.
Ensure that air bag module is centered evenly In the steering wheel.
Tighten the right-hand screw first. Turn the steering wheel to access the screws.

Tightening torque: 8 Nm (6.0 ft. lbs.)

Final check:

Important! When all components inside the car have been replaced and tightened, the following should be carried out in the order below:





- First switch on the ignition

- Then connect the battery negative lead

Warning!
Ensure that nobody is in the car when the battery is being connected.

Check for any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs)

DTC Socket:





- If any DTCs other than 1-1-1 are found, fault trace according to TP32231/1, Chapter C.

Enter anti-theft radio code and verify function of radio.

Reset clock to current time.

NOTE:
Do not forget to replace the date label on the B-post on the driver's side with the label supplied with the steering wheel module. Also affix the enclosed campaign label below the SRS label on the drive's side "B" pillar.
