- Ignition off.
- Disconnect the ABS control module by pressing in the catch on the rear edge of the cover (wheel arch side). Carefully turn the cover upwards so that the locking catches release.
- Check control module and control module connector to ensure that: Male and female terminals are undamaged and properly attached (cannot be pressed in). Female terminal cables are correctly connected to the terminals.
- Pay particular attention to the terminals related to the diagnostic trouble code (DTC)/symptom.
- Connect adapter 951 1354 Adapter 25-pin ABS 850 951 1354 Adapter 25-Pin ABS 850 to the control module connector (wiring side) and connect breakout box 951 1428 Breakout box 951 1428 Breakout Box to the adapter.
- Control module disconnected.
- Then check ground terminals.

- Ignition off.
- Switch off all equipment that takes power from the battery (courtesy lighting, radio etc).
- Connect an ohmmeter between battery negative terminal and #8 and #24 on the breakout box.
The ohmmeter should read approximately 0 ohms for all readings.
OK - Return to the fault-tracing procedure where it was interrupted.
Reading is OK
Not OK - Check ground terminal 1/1 (battery negative terminal) and cable between ground terminal and control module #8 and #24, for an open-circuit and contact resistance.-Return to the fault-tracing procedure where it was interrupted.
Value is not OK

- Check ground terminal 1/1 (battery negative terminal) and cable between ground terminal and control module #8 and #24, for an open-circuit and contact resistance.

Connect an ohmmeter between breakout box:
- #4 and #11 (diagnostic trouble code (DTC) ABS-321).
- #3 and #18 (diagnostic trouble code (DTC) ABS-322).
The ohmmeter should read 1040-1160 ohms.
OK - Checking signal cables
Not OK - Check resistance in wheel sensor

- Ignition off.
- Remove wheels for better access.
- Carefully clean around wheel sensor connector.
Brush and blow clean.
- Disconnect wheel sensor.
Connect an ohmmeter between wheel sensor connector terminals 1 and 2.
The ohmmeter should read 1040-1160 ohms.
OK - Checking for contact resistance and oxidation

- The diagnostic trouble code (DTC) has been caused by loose connections in the wheel sensor connector.
Check wheel sensor connector for contact resistance and oxidation and remedy according to Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring and Terminals. Permanent Fault.
Select "Continue" when the fault has been repaired.

- Ignition on.
Connect a voltmeter between breakout box:
- #8 and #4 (diagnostic trouble code (DTC) ABS-321).
- #8 and #3 (diagnostic trouble code (DTC) ABS-322).
The voltmeter should read approximately 2.3 V.

Note! Disconnect wheel sensor.
- Remove wheel for better access.
Check that wheel sensor is fitted tightly against shaft/hub. Check that there is no dirt between the sensor and mating surface.
- Remove wheel sensor according to Front wheel sensor, replacement Front Wheel Sensor, Replacement. Check that the tip of the wheel sensor is intact.

Hint: After repair it is necessary to check that the fault has been rectified
- Ignition off
- Reconnect the connections, components etc.
- Disconnect Volvo System Tester so that the diagnosis is aborted.
Warning! The ABS and EBD systems are not available while Volvo Diagnostics is activated. Take great care when test driving as there is a serious risk of the wheels locking when braking.
- Test drive the vehicle as per Test driving Test Driving.
- Stop the vehicle.
Note the DTC status.
