Introduction B5234T

The B5234T is based on the B5254S and is an in-line 5-cylinder liquid cooled turbocharged engine made of aluminum with a Motronic 4.3 combined boost pressure and engine management system. Cylinder capacity is 2.3 liter (2.319 cc) and the engine has four valves per cylinder, "pent roof" combustion chamber, double overhead camshafts, automatic timing belt tensioner and hydraulic tappets (valve depressors).
There are several major modifications in comparison to the B5254S, for example:
- Engine management system with electronic boost pressure control.
- Intake system with a charge air cooler (CAC). The intake manifold is of the conventional type because a variable intake manifold is not needed on an engine with a turbocharger (TC).
- A newly designed exhaust manifold with heat deflector plates, exhaust system and turbocharger (TC).
- High capacity cooling system adapted for water cooling the turbocharger (TC).
- Engine oil cooler, which is necessary due to the high engine output, engine piston cooling and turbocharger lubrication.
