Motor Oil

Motor oil

Background
There are two types of oil plans for the 850 (with different capacities) depending on engine type, see table below:

Version 2 has fluorescent dip stick handle (version 1 is red)
When replacing oil filter only: Top up with 0.5 l oil.

850 cars with the B5254S engine (automatic transmission) have been equipped with a larger capacity oil pan for engine oil, from engine serial number 374783.
From chassis numbers:
Factory code 1: 854-205080
Factory code 2: 854-206644
Factory code 2: 855-106997
The change effects the amount of oil used at oil changes and when topping up the engine oil between the Min/Max levels on the dipstick.
Capacities - B5254S engine, with new sump.
- Oil and filter change 6.1 US qt. ( 5.8 liters)
- Oil change separately 5.8 US qt. ( 5.5 liters)
- Replacing oil filter separately 0.4 US qt. ( 0.4 liter)
- Volume between Min./Max. 1.6 US qt. ( 1.5 liters)

The engines with larger oil capacity can be recognized by the color of the dipstick handle. The dipstick handle is fluorescent red.

The dipstick also has a disc attached to the handle.
The text on the disc gives the difference in volume between the Min/Max markings: "Between Min/Max 1.5 l (0.4 US GAL) " .

OIL GRADE
As per API-serviceman SG*
As per CCMC class G4/G5

Turbo: Max oil pressure(valve opens)MPa 0.60 (85.3 psi)
(1 kp/cm2 approximately 100kPa approximately 0.10 MPa)
*Oil pressures apply at an oil temperature of 100°C, which is reached after 10-15 minutes driving with the B 5204, B5252, B5254 and B5234T.
