Drive Belt: Description and Operation
Auxiliary equipment drive belt
Auxiliary equipment (generator (GEN), power steering pump, air conditioning (A/C) compressor) is powered by Poly-V drive belt and is tensioned by a mechanical tensioner. Auxiliaries are all on one bracket.
The tensioner consisted of a spring and a friction element. The friction element provides the damping necessary to absorb the small oscillations and speed variations which occur while the spring maintains a correct belt tension regardless of wear and temperature.
New routing of auxiliaries belt
A new auxiliaries belt is being introduced into production for the 850 with A/C .
The new belt is routed so that it travels further on the generator drive pulley.
The new type of belt will replace the earlier belt for cars with A/C.
