The SRS control unit is equipped with a diagnostic system called Volvo Diagnostics for self-diagnosis and additional information. It can be read via the Volvo System Tester connected to the data link connector.

When switching on the ignition (ignition in position II or motor running) the SRS diagnostic system does an initial self-test. Then the SRS diagnostic system transfers to supervisory mode, continually self-testing the system. Checking occurs in the control unit for internal faults, in all outputs for ignition cables and the output for the SRS warning lamp in the combination instrument.
