Lock-Up
Lock-up
Like shift speeds, mechanical lock-up of the torque converter is engaged at different speeds depending on the driving mode and gear position (D, 3, L) selected at the time. In addition to road speed and driving mode, transmission temperature and engine load (throttle opening) are factors. Lock-up is engaged at a lowest oil temperature of 20 °C -30 °C in the transmission. Mechanical lock-up also occurs on 2nd, 3rd and 4th gears. When carrying out a test drive speeds in the tables should be used as a guide , as it is hard to read off exact speed and throttle position values while driving.
Lock-up engagement/disengagement tables for the three driving modes and different engines can be found in Pocket Data Booklet 850, 900 1996-.
