Preparations
Open control system. See Inspecting / replacing solenoids Inspecting / Replacing Solenoids.

Preparations, continued

Remove:
- Air cleaner housing ACL complete with intake pipe
Remove:
- Air cleaner (ACL) housing bracket
Separate transmission connector halves.
Note the rubber seal.

Checking cable harness

Use an ohmmeter to measure resistance between the transmission connector and the end of the appropriate solenoid cable. Shake harness gently during measurement to locate possible loose connections. The ohmmeter should read 0 ohms .

Replace the cable harness if ohmmeter reading is different. See below.

Removing cable harness

Remove:
- Transmission cable
- Lever
- Gear position sensor screw and retainer for harness gland.

Disassembling connectors

Remove:
- Connector screws
- Retainer for grommet for wiring in transmission.
Remove sockets from connector housing.
Remove rubber seal from connector. Insert screwdriver between casing and socket and press catch in. At the same time slide the sockets out of the casing.

Remove socket for wiring to solenoids (5-pin socket).
Free wiring harness from transmission/control system.

Installing cable harness

Install the new cable harness with grommet and O-ring. Reconnect solenoid connectors.
The illustration shows solenoid SL, S1 and cable harness, early version. See Inspecting / replacing solenoids Inspecting / Replacing Solenoids for late versions.
Wiring color codes:
Solenoid S1: white
Solenoid S2: black
Solenoid STH: blue and brown
Solenoid SL: red
Install cable harness in holders and check that it is correctly positioned.

Install:
- Retainer to cable harness grommet
- Gear position sensor bracket screw
- Lever. Tighten to: 16 Nm (11.8 lb.ft).
- Gear selector cable with washer and retaining clip Apply a little grease 1161241-3 to lever pin.

Assembling connector

Reinstall connector bases.
Reconnect connector halves.
Ensure that rubber seal is in position.
Secure harness and rubber sleeve with cable ties.
Reconnect connector to transmission.
Remember rubber seal.
Note the rubber seal.

Finishing
