Gear-shift assembly, replacing

Remove:
- Negative cable from the battery
- the centre console. [1][2]Center Console
- Gear-shift knob as follows:

Remove the boot from the gear selector knob Turn the boot with circlip (located inside the boot) 1/4 turn and pull the boot off from the knob. Ensure the circlip returns to its original position inside the boot after removal.

Removal
Pull the knob with shift lock button straight up from the gear-shift lever.

Hint:
Great force is required to remove the knob.

Installation
Install the gear-shift knob with shift lock button. Slide down the circlip a little in the boot. Do not turn the circlip. Lift up the boot over the locking hooks, toward the edge of the knob. Move up and secure the circlip in the locking hooks on the knob.

- Disconnect the gear cable from the gear selector assembly.
- Pull out the cable shaft with a pliers.



- Remove the circlip holding the cable casing in the gear selector assembly.
- Remove the lamp holder from the light moulding.

Remove the connector (only cars with shift-lock)



- Separate the solenoid's connector
- Remove the cable to the key lock (only cars with key lock)
- Put the gear-shift lever in the P-position and the ignition switch in position I or II.
- Loosen the cable to the key lock from the gearshift assembly and lever.

Removing the lever console



- Remove the cross piece between the SIPS members
- Remove the gear-shift assembly's two front screws.
- Remove the gear selector assembly.

Note! Take care so the cable is not bent

Transferring components



Transfer, or replace, the following components to the new gear-shift assembly:
- Rubber bushings
- Spacers
- Gear-shift knob according to Gear selector knob, replacing .
- Boot according to Boot, replacing .
- Light moulding according to Light moulding, replacing .
- Retractable cover and indication panel according to Retractable cover and indicator panel, replacing .

Installing the gear selector assembly



- Insert the cable in the gear selector assembly.
- Ensure that the rubber bushings fit in the guide bushings.
- Insert the the cross piece between the SIPS members.
- Tighten the gear-shift assembly screws to 25 Nm.
- Tighten the side screws for the cross piece with 25 Nm .

Install:



- Cable casing in the gear selector assembly with circlip.
- Cable to the selector lever with spindle.

Installing the connector (only cars with shift-lock)
- Connect the connector to the solenoid.

Installing the cable, key lock (only cars with key lock)
- Put the gear-shift lever in the P-position and the ignition switch in position I or II.
- Install the cable to the key lock in the lever and gear-shift assembly.
- Check the key lock function according to Check the key lock function.

Install:
- Lamp holder on the light moulding
- The centre console. [1][2]Center Console
- The battery's minus cable.
