Replacing the Control Module
Replacing the control module
General
Check that it is 3rd generation immobilizer.
After installation a new immobilizer control module must be initiated (programmed). Information about which control module it should communicate with is programmed in. The immobilizer control module aligns the communication to that information. The alignment cannot be changed. This means that the immobilizer control module cannot be moved between different cars.
All cars with immobilizer have a unique PIN which is programmed into the control module before the car leaves the factory, or when the defective control module is exchanged as a replacement part.
This/these codes cannot be changed. They are stored together with other information about the car in the Volvo's central car register.
When programming control module keys, the control module security code is programmed into the transponder in the keys. When replacing to a new immobilizer control module all keys must be replaced. The new control module does not recognize the previous control module security code.
When replacing a defective control module with a replacement part the PIN must be known so that the programming can be carried out. The PIN can be ordered from the Volvo central car register using the same procedure as for ordering mechanical keys.
Note! When replacing the immobilizer control module those codes in the Volvo central car register must be programmed in. It is not permitted to program in any other codes!
