CBA. Replacement Of The Roll Bar Cartridge
CBA1. Disassembly Preparation
Move hood to the position shown in the figure.
Make a note of any radio code.
Ignition off.
Disconnect the battery negative lead.
CBA2. Removal of the roll bar cartridge.
Remove the rear seat. See Seat Cushion
The roll bar panel.
Remove 4 screws and the loudspeaker.
CBA3. Removal of the roll bar cartridge
WARNING! The roll bars are extended by powerful springs, the force of which is sufficient to injure a person. When a roll bar is extended make sure no person is directly above it. The extended height is approximately 50 cm (20 inch).
CAUTION! If there is a fault with the roll bar replace the whole cartridge, do not repair the cartridge.
Extending the roll bar
Insert a thin screwdriver into the catch. Push the top of the catch with the screwdriver, as shown in the figure, to release the spring and extend the roll bar.
Removing the dividing filter on the loudspeaker
Push out the clip on the connector.
Remove the 3 screws from the dividing filter. Remove the dividing filter and the wires through the loudspeaker opening.
Remove:
4 rubber stoppers from the front edge of the storage space of the hood
4 screws from the roll bar cartridge.
Connect the battery negative lead.
Ignition on.
Move hood to the position shown in the figure.
Removal of roll bar cartridge
Push out the clip on the connector.
Pull the wires out through the loudspeaker opening.
Carefully push on the stop on the connector and pull the connector apart.
Loosen the bottom 2 screws on the roll bar cartridge.
Lift the roll bar cartridge out.
Note: Only loosen the bottom 2 screws on the cartridge. Replace the clips with new ones if they break
ASSEMBLY
CBA4. Assemble in reverse order
Note: It is not necessary to assemble the cover panel on the roll bar because the roll bar will be checked.
CBA5. Pushing the roll bar down
Push the safety catch to the side and hold it in this position. Using your hand, push the roll bar down until it reaches its bottom position then release the safety catch.
CAUTION! Make sure that the roll bar is locked in its bottom position.
FINAL WORK
CBA6. Checking the roll bar

Extending the roll bar
Insert a thin screwdriver into the catch. Push the top of the catch with the screwdriver, as shown in the figure, to release the spring and extend the roll bar.
Full check
A minimum of 3 ridges on the locking pin (1) must be visible on the cartridge. Press the safety catch to the side. Release the safety catch.
Note: The roll bar must not move further upwards when the safety catch is released.
Checking the top position of the roll bar
Push the safety catch to the side once more and keep the catch in this position. Then pull the roll bar up using your hands until it stops (it should already be at the top position). The roll bar should not move up when you pull it (if the roll bar only moves a very small amount then it has reached its top position).
Note: The roll bar must reach its top position.
If the roll bar does not reach its top position, try again. Push the roll bar down again according to CBA5 then extend the roll bar according to extending the roll bar. If this fails for a second time, change the roll bar cartridge.
Final check
Push the safety catch to the side and hold it in this position. Using your hand, push the roll bar down until it reaches its bottom position then release the safety catch.
CAUTION! Make sure that the roll bar is locked in its bottom position.
CBA7. Ignition in position II and connect the battery negative lead
CBA8. Check
Note: Check that the ROPS warning light is not broken by turning the ignition to position II. The ROPS warning light should then come on for approximately 5 Seconds then go off.
Check that the ROPS warning light in the combination instrument does not remain on. If the light remains on, use Volvo After sales Diagnostic and Information System (VADIS) and symptom entry or Volvo System Tester (VST), to find the diagnostic trouble codes.
