Removal
1. Clearing right shock absorber mounting:





- 4-door
a. Remove support panel under the front edge of the carpet.
b. Cut the side panel vents front and rear as illustrated.
c. Fold up the panel cover which covers the shock absorber mounting.





- 5-door
Remove the front floor panel screws. Pull panel backwards to release it from its front mountings. Remove panel.





2. Remove two right upper shock absorber mounting bolts.
3. Undo connector clamp. Fold wiring and connector away from the shock absorber mounting.





4. Remove:
a. Right wheel.
b. Right anti-roll bar mounting.
5. Undo:
a. Brake pipe bracket on the right trailing arm.
b. ABS-wiring and brake pipe from the clip on the right trailing arm.





6. Press up the trailing arm to unload the shock absorber. Use a jack. Position it on the recess for the spring mounting bolt.
7. Undo the shock absorber from the lower mounting. Pull the shock absorber off the pivot arm and lower the trailing arm.





8. Remove spring mounting nut and spring from car.
9. Install shock absorber and tighten nut a few turns.





10. Remove:
a. Transverse arm mounting bolts A both sides.
b. Screws B and C on right.





11. Position a jack under the left spring seat. Press up left trailing arm to unload right trailing arm mounting.
12. Force down trailing arm mounting from body guide pin on right.





13. Press out right trailing arm, left trailing arm remains in position. Remove transverse arm mounting from right transverse arm.

Installation





1. Install a new transverse arm mounting for the right trailing arm.
2. Align mounting with left trailing arm mounting. Ensure that the trailing arm is in the same position relative to the body. Tighten bolt to 80 Nm (59 ft. lbs.).
3. Adjust the left trailing arm position with the jack. Replace right transverse arm and mounting in its mounting without installing bolts.





4. Replace left transverse arm mounting. Align mounting as before. Tighten bolt to 80 Nm (59 ft. lbs.).
5. Replace transverse arm and mounting on trailing arm mounting without installing bolts.





6. Install right trailing arm to body guide pin Use new bolts.
a. First tighten bolt (C) which goes through the bracket and rear axle link. Tighten to 105 Nm (78 ft. lbs.) and angle-tighten to 90°.
b. Then tighten the bracket's three bolts (B) to 65 Nm (48 ft. lbs.) and angle-tighten to 60°. Use angle gauge.
7. Install transverse arm mounting screws (A). Use new bolts and nuts. Hand tighten.

NOTE: Tighten bolts (A) after adjusting toe in.





8. Undo right shock absorber.





9. Install:
a. Spring. Tighten lower spring mounting nut to 40 Nm (30 ft. lbs.).
b. Right shock absorber. Tighten to 80 Nm (59 ft. lbs.).
10. Install:
a. The brake pipe and ABS-wiring to the mounting clip on trailing arm.
b. Brake pipe bracket to the trailing arm mounting lug.
c. Anti-roll bar to the trailing arm. Use new nuts. Tighten to 50 Nm (37 ft. lbs.).
11. Install wheel. Hand tighten wheel bolts. Tighten crosswise to 110 Nm (81 ft. lbs.).





12. Tighten upper shock absorber mounting bolts to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.). Secure connector with a strip clamp.
13. Replace carpet, panels/floor panel.





- 4-door: Fold down cover over shock absorber mounting. Replace support panel and carpet.





- 5-door: Align the front edge of the floor panel mountings. Install screws in the rear edge. Align the panel with the rear floor panel and tighten screws.
