Transmission Fluid, Replacing






Changing oil

Note! Use only automatic transmission fluid which fulfills both Dexron II E and Ford Mercon standards. Avoid skin contact with transmission fluid.

Conditions
The oil should be replaced only in the following instances:
- When the on-board diagnostic system (OBD system) has recorded that the oil temperature is too high, diagnostic trouble code (DTC) AT-235 (DTC 2-3-5).
- When the oil smells burnt, is discolored, even though no diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is stored. For example due to hard and intensive use.
- The oil should be changed at 75,000 km service intervals for cars in continuous taxi service and cars used to tow trailers extensively.

Warning! The oil may be very hot if the car has just been driven. Avoid skin contact.

After an oil change, the oil counter must always be reset according to Resetting Transmission fluid change counter.

Replacing the bevel gear oil

Draining




Remove the splash guard under the engine.
Remove the drain plug. Drain the oil from the transmission.

Installing the oil pan plug
Install the oil pan plug with a new gasket.
Torque: 40 Nm .
Install the protective cover.
Remove:
- The battery
- The battery shelf





Remove the return hose on the control system cover.
Install a plastic plug in the connection on the cover.
Install a transparent plastic hose on the oil return hose connection.
Place a container beneath the hose to catch the oil.
Temporarily reinstall the battery shelf and the battery.

Refilling
Apply the parking brake. Move the gear selector to position P. Add approximately 2 liters of oil.
Start the engine and let it idle.
Turn the engine off when air bubbles start to become visible in the hose.
Add approximately 2 liters of oil.
Start the engine again and let it idle.
Turn the engine off when air bubbles start to become visible in the hose.
Remove the battery and the battery shelf. Remove the hose from the connection.
Install the return hose on transmission cover. Install the battery shelf and the battery.

Add approximately 2 liters of oil.
Apply the parking brake
Start the engine and let it idle. Move the gear selector through all positions; stop in each position for 4-5 seconds.

Move the gear selector to position P with the engine running.
Wait 2 minutes. Check the oil level
Top up if necessary. The oil capacity of the transmission is 7.6 ±0.25 liters (MAX, MIN).
Switch off the engine

Erasing diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs)
Check and erase any diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs).
After an oil change, the oil counter must always be reset.
