Exhaust System: Description and Operation
Exhaust System:
The exhaust system consists of three main components.
Exhaust manifold, three-way catalytic converter (TWC) and connection pipe and silencer with intermediate and tail pipes.
The exhaust manifold is made of welded, chromium steel piping. The pipes are tuned to prevent interference between the gas flows from the individual cylinders.
The joint between the exhaust manifold and the front pipe consists of a conical, sintered ring and a spring loaded screw joint. This gives it some flexibility absorbing the movements of the engine resulting from changes in torque.
The rear joint is of the ball and socket type facilitating installation (the exhaust system aligns itself).
The entire exhaust system is made of chromium steel.
The joint between the exhaust manifold and the front exhaust pipe has been fitted with a flexible connector.
