Vehicle Damage Warnings
Connection and Disconnection of Control Modules
^ The ignition must be switched OFF at all times when connecting or disconnecting the connectors or test box.
Switch OFF Ignition Switch When:
^ connecting or disconnecting test instruments;
^ connecting or disconnecting connectors;
^ carrying out resistance measurements with ohmmeter.
During Compression Testing:
^ Disconnect power stage connector (to prevent flashover to electrical system wiring.
^ Disconnect injector connectors (to prevent contamination of engine oil by petrol).
Battery
^ It is important to ensure that battery voltage is normal (approx. 12 V) when testing various components. It required, a battery charger may be connected while testing.
^ The maximum permissible charging current is 15A at 16V.
^ Do not disconnect leads when engine is running. Disconnect battery leads when booster charging. Do not use booster charger or apply voltage higher than 16V when jump-starting.
Fire Risk
^ Maximum care must be taken to avoid sparking during any fuel system work, especially when checking injectors.
Control Modules
^ Control modules must not be subjected to temperatures above +80°C (175°F).
^ Remove control modules, for example, when stoving paint.
^ Remove control modules when arc welding.
^ Do not replace a control module without checking associated wiring and components, otherwise new module may be damaged by same fault as original.
Hygiene
^ Hygiene is particularly important when working on the fuel system.
^ Clean fuel line connections thoroughly before undoing.
Gaskets and Seals
^ Always use new gaskets and seals when reconnecting fittings.
