GLA-541
VA. DTC 541
Condition
Diagnostic trouble code (DTC) GLA-541 is stored if the control module registers that the signal from ignition switch terminal S is less than 1.5 V for 3 seconds when the ignition is switched on.
Substitute Value
None.
Possible Source
Short-circuit to ground in signal cable.
Open-circuit in signal cable.
Fault in ignition switch.
Fault Symptom(s)
The doors can be locked even though the key is still in the ignition switch.
Start fault-tracing with VB.
VB1. Checking Signal From Ignition Switch
Ignition on.
Go into scrolling values,
Read off key status.
The value should be HIGH.
Is the reading OK?
Yes: Go to VB7.
No: Go to VB2.
VB2. Checking Connectors
Ignition off.
Check ignition switch terminal S and control module connector for contact resistance and oxidation according to WWA5 WW. Checking Wiring and Connections
Ignition on.
Go into scrolling values.
Read off key status.
The value should be HIGH.
Is the reading OK?
Yes: Fault corrected
No: Go to VB3.
VB3. Checking Ignition Switch
Expose ignition switch.
Disconnect the yellow cable from ignition switch terminal S.
Ignition on.
Go into scrolling values.
Read off key status.
The value should be HIGH.
Is the value HIGH?
Yes: Go to VB4.
No: Go to VB5.
VB4. Replacing Component
Try a new ignition switch.
Then continue with VB7
VB5. Checking Cables
Hint: If the fuse is blown, check the circuit after fuse 18 for a short-circuit to ground according to WWA3 WW. Checking Wiring and Connections, then replace fuse.
Check fuse 15, check cable between ignition switch terminal S and fuse 18, and cable between fuse 18 and control module #B10 for an open-circuit according to WWA2 WW. Checking Wiring and Connections
Remedy as necessary. Then continue with VB6.
VB6. Verification
Hint: After repairs have been completed they must be verified as follows to ensure that the fault has been eliminated.
Reconnect connectors, reinstall components.
Ignition on.
Go into scrolling values.
Read off key status.
The value should be HIGH.
Is the reading OK?
Yes: Fault corrected
No: Fault not found
VB7 Intermittent fault
Check cable between ignition switch terminal S and fuse 18, and fuse 18 and VGLA control module #B18 for an intermittent open-circuit according to WWB2. Check ignition switch terminal S and control module connector for loose connections according to WWB5, and contact resistance and oxidation according to WWB6 WW. Checking Wiring and Connections Operation done.
