Removal
1. Raise the car.
Remove:
- Wheel.





2. Installing tensioner.
Install:
- Tensioner 999 5659. See: Use of tensioner 999 5659. Refer to Steering and Suspension.
Tension tensioner 999 5659 lightly against control arm.





3. Brakes:
- Slacken off parking brake adjuster.
- Slacken off brake shoe adjustment as much as possible.
- Turn the brake disc so that one of the wheel stud holes is opposite the brake shoe adjustment gear wheel.
- Turn the gear wheel as far as it will go. Use a screwdriver.





4. Press up tensioner into position. See: Normal position. Refer to Steering and Suspension.
Remove:
- Drive shaft nut. Use counterhold 999 5540.
- Brake caliper, hang it in a piece of wire.
- Locating pin.
- Brake disc, mark the position of the brake disc in relation to the locating pin.





5. Remove:
- Parking brake shoes.
- Expander from parking brake cable.
- Cable from wheel bearing housing.
- Upper control arm bushing nut.
- ABS sensor. Tape sensor to track rod.

NOTE: Do not disconnect connector.

Knock out control arm bushing screw to release it from the wheel bearing housing.





6. Remove:
- Track rod screw. Pull track rod from wheel bearing housing.
- Nut to control arm screw. Tap out screw with a brass drift.
- Wheel bearing housing.





7. Press out the hub.
Position counterhold 999 5340 between hub and wheel bearing housing.
Position wheel bearing housing in the press.
Press out the hub with drift 999 5088.





8. Remove circlip holding bearing in wheel bearing housing.
Press bearing out of wheel bearing housing.
Use counterhold 999 5341 and drift 999 5085. Position the drift on the inner ring.





9. Pull inner ring off hub.
Use puller 999 2722 and counterhold 999 5310.

Installation





1. Press in bearing.
Use drift 999 5242 and counterhold 999 5341.
Reinstall circlip.





2. Press on hub.
Use drift 999 5088 and counterhold 999 5085.

CAUTION: It is very important to position the counterhold on the inner ring otherwise the bearing will be damaged.





3. Installing wheel bearing housing.
Align the wheel bearing housing with the upper control arm and drive shaft.
Install:
- Control arm screw and nut.
Tighten to: 80 Nm (59.1 ft. lbs.).
- Track rod.
Tighten to: 80 Nm (59.1 ft. lbs.).
- Upper control arm nut.
Tighten to: 115 Nm (84.9 ft. lbs.).





4. Install:
- Parking brake cable to wheel bearing housing with clip.
- Expander to parking brake cable. The arrow on top of the expander should point forward.
- Parking brake shoes with holders and springs. Hold the brake shoes in place with tie straps during installation.
- ABS sensor.





5. Install:
- Brake disc as marked.
- Locating pin. Tighten to: 10 Nm (7.38 ft. lbs.).
- A new drive shaft nut.
Tighten to 140 Nm (103.3 ft. lbs.), Angle-tighten 60°.

Use counterhold 999 5540 and protractor 951 2050.





6. Install brake caliper.
Use new screws.
Tighten to 60 Nm (44.3 ft. lbs.).





7. Brakes:
- Check that the parking brake is not engaged.
- Turn the brake disc so that one of the wheel stud holes is opposite the brake shoe adjustment gear wheel.
- Adjust until brake disc cannot be turned. Then undo adjuster approximately 6 notches. Use a screwdriver.
8. Install:
- Wheel according to: Tightening wheel studs.

Slacken off tensioner 999 5659 completely and remove it.
