Checking The Rotor And Distributor Cap
- Reinstall the spark plug cap.
- Connect the ignition coil ignition cable to the distributor cap.
- Try to start the engine.
- Does the engine start?
Yes:
^ The cause of the fault has been poor contact in the ignition discharge module (IDM) or engine control module (ECM) connectors. Check connectors for contact resistance or oxidation and remedy.
No:
^ Check the distributor cap, rotor and ignition cables for of arcing damage, moisture or dirt. Replace if necessary.
Checking The Spark Plugs
- Ignition off.
- Replace all spark plugs.
NOTE: It is very important that the correct spark plugs are used, see replacement part catalogues for P/N. Check the spark gap on the new spark plugs before installing them. The spark gap should be 0.7 - 0.8 mm.
- Connect the ignition cables to the spark plugs.
- Try to start the engine.
- Does the engine start?
Yes:
^ The cause of the fault has been poor spark plugs.
No:
