Changing Oil
NOTE:
- Only ATF oil which meets Dexron II E and Ford Mercon standards may be used.
- Avoid skin contact with transmission fluid.
BASICS
- The oil should be changed only in the following instances:
- When the diagnostics system has registered oil temperature too high, diagnostic trouble code (DTC) AT-235 (diagnostic trouble code (DTC) 2-3-5).
- The oil smells burnt and is discolored but no DTC has been recorded, for example, in connection with heavy, concentrated use.
- For cars in continuous taxi service and cars used to tow trailers for extended mileage, oil should be changed at 75,000 km service intervals.
WARNING: The oil may be very hot if the car has just been driven. Avoid skin contact.
DRAINING
- Remove splashguard under engine.
- Remove drain plug and drain oil from the transmission.
INSTALLING OIL PAN PLUG
- Reinstall oil pan plug with a new seal.
- Tighten to: 40 Nm
- Reinstall splash guard.
FILLING
- Remove:
- Battery
- Battery shelf
- Remove return hose on the control system cover.
- Plug the connector on the cover.
- Install a transparent plastic hose on the oil return hose connector.
- Place a container beneath the hose to catch the oil.
- Temporarily replace battery tray and battery.
- Set the parking brake and move the gear selector to position P.
- Add approximately 2 liters of oil.
- Start the engine and idle it.
- Turn the engine off when air bubbles start to become visible in the hose.
- Add approximately 2 liters of oil.
- Start the engine again and idle it.
- Turn the engine off when air bubbles start to become visible in the hose.
- Remove battery and battery tray.
- Remove hose from connector.
- Reinstall oil return hose to transmission cover, replace battery tray and battery.
- Add approximately 2 liters of oil.
- Set parking brake Start engine and idle it, move the gear selector through all positions, stopping in each position for 5 seconds.
- Move the gear selector to position P with the engine running.
- Wait 2 minutes, then check oil level Top up if necessary.
- The transmission holds 7.6 +0.25 liters (MAX, MIN).
- Turn the engine off.
