General
RADIO
- Make a note of the radio code before disconnecting the battery leads and the car is without voltage supply.
- Re-enter the code when the work has been completed.
BATTERY
- When testing components it is important that battery voltage is normal (approx. 12 V).
- If necessary, a battery charger can be connected during testing.
- Connect battery charger to the battery terminals.
- Charge bakery for approx. 10 hours at the recommended current - maximum 6 A.
Example:
- If the battery is marked 520 A a charge current of 0.01x520=5.2 A is recommended.
- A higher than recommended charge current can damage the battery.
NOTE: Boost charging (with a high current or voltage above 16 V) will damage the battery and is prohibited.
WARNING
- While the battery is being charged an explosive mixture of oxygen and hydrogen gases is formed
- Smoking, welding, grinding or other activities involving sparks or naked flames are prohibited in the vicinity of a charging battery.
- Batteries must be charged in a well ventilated area.
CLEANLINESS:
- Pay attention to cleanliness when working on the transmission, particularly when working on the control system and when checking and changing the oil.
- Make sure that the workplace is free of dirt and dust.
- Always use clean containers.
- Clean around the filling pipe and draining plug.
Warning: Avoid skin contact with transmission fluid.
CONTROL MODULES
Connecting Disconnecting Control Modules
Always switch off the ignition before connecting or disconnecting a connector or the test box to a control module.
Temperature
The control module must not be heated to above 30°C.
Remove control module when staving for example.
Arc Welding
Disconnect connector from control modules when arc welding.
Remove control module before carrying out any arc welding work close to it.
Replacing
Do not replace a control module without checking its wiring and components.
The new component may be damaged in the same way as the old one.
INSTALLATION OF SCREW JOINT FASTENERS
- Clean all surfaces in the fastener, first mechanically and then with a grease solvent.
- If necessary, replace screws and nuts for torque-installed fasteners.
- Lock nuts must always be replaced with new ones.
- If re-using screws and nuts, always clean and grease properly first.
- Always replace screws, or screws and nuts for torque/protractor-installed fasteners.
- Does not apply to self-locking drive shaft nuts M22, the old nut can be reinstalled.
