Introduction B5234T, T3 And T5
The B5234T, T3 and T5 is based on the B5254S and is an in-line, five-cylinder liquid cooled, turbocharged engine made of light alloy with a multi-port fuel injection system (MFI system) - Motronic 4.3 - combined boost pressure and engine management system. With a cubic capacity of 2.3 liters (2,319 cc) the unit has four valves per cylinder, pent-roof combustion chambers, double overhead camshafts, automatic timing belt tensioner and hydraulic tappets.
There are several major modifications to the B5254S, for example:
- An engine management system with electronic boost pressure control.
- An intake system with an Charge Air Cooler (CAC).
- The intake manifold is conventional, as a variable flow manifold is not necessary on a turbocharged engine.
- A newly designed exhaust manifold with heat shields, exhaust system and Turbocharger (TC).
- High capacity cooling system adapted for water cooling of the TC.
- Engine oil cooler. necessary due to the high engine output, engine piston cooling system and turbocharger lubrication.
- Unique cylinder block with piston cooling.

- Cyl. diameter: 81 mm (2 mm less than the B5254)
- Stroke: 90 mm (the same as the B5254)
- Compression ratio: 8.5:1 (compare with B5254 10.5:1)

Intake: 31 mm (the same as the B5254)
Exhaust: 27 mm (the same as the B5254)
- Basic timing: 6 ± 2
- Idling speed: 850 rpm
- Max. speed: 6,200 rpm
(6,500 rpm instantaneously for 2.5 seconds)
- Max. boost pressure: 66 ± 7 kPa (24.1 ± 1 psi)
at 5,100 rpm (absolute pressure)
