Checking Fuel Pressure While The Car Is Being Driven

Special tools: 9812270, 9812273, 9812282, 998 9725, 999 5011, 999 5479

Overview
- The fuel pressure and residual pressure can normally be checked in the workshop. A description of how to check fuel pressure and residual pressure while the car is being driven is included in case this is necessary.

Connect Pressure Gauge
- Supplement pressure gauge 999 5011 with nipple 998 9725 and adapter 999 5479 before use.
- Connect adapter to valve on fuel rail, with adapter in locked position (valve closed as in image inset #1).
- Turn pressure gauge cock so it faces adapter 999 5479.
- Connect other pressure gauge connector to fuel draining unit 981 2270981 2273981 2282.
- Unlock adapter (image inset #2 valve open).

Routing Pressure Hose
- Remove throttle pulley cover.
- Remove protective cap from the fuel pressure line nipple.
- Install the adapter hose nipple loosely on the nipple on the fuel pressure line. The nipple will be tightened later.

NOTE: Ensure that the hose follows the rubber trim on the plenum chamber and then out of the engine compartment at the rear corner of the hood, with the adapter hose joint at the T-valve outside the engine compartment, so the neither the hood or the hose are damaged when the hood is closed.

Connecting Fuel Pressure Gauge
- Install the T-valve to the left door mirror using tape.

NOTE: Protect the valve and hose joint with foam rubber as illustrated.

- Turn the T-valve cock to the middle position (position 2 in the image).
- Start draining unit.

- Tighten nipple on fuel rail.

NOTE: Ensure that there is no fuel leakage.

Connecting Fuel Pressure Gauge, Continuation
- Turn the T-valve cock toward the engine (position 1 in the image).
- Stop draining unit.

- Remove the draining unit hose from the T-valve hose connector.

- Use a tie strap to lock the cock in the position toward the engine.
- Arrange the hose along the plenum chamber cover's rubber trim to the left of the hood hinge so that neither the hood nor the hose are damaged.
- Carefully close the hood.

Measure Fuel Pressure
- Start engine.
- Drive the car and read off fuel pressure while the car is being driven. Fuel pressure should be: 285 - 315 kPa under all driving conditions.

Disconnect Fuel Pressure Gauge
- Connect the draining unit hose to the hose nipple on the door mirror (see black arrow in image).
- Start draining unit.

- Remove the tie strap locking the cock on the T-nipple.
- Turn cock to mid-position (position 2).

Disconnect Fuel Pressure Gauge, Continuation
- Remove adapter hose from the engine.
- Turn off the draining unit.
- Remove the measurement equipment and hoses from the car.

- Reinstall the protective cap on the fuel rail.
- Reinstall throttle pulley cover.
