Background:

Poor contact surface on panel results in seals loosening. Therefore, when replacing panel or during any work involving removal of the panel, the panel seals must be removed and new seals installed directly onto the dashboard frame, if they have not already been installed.

Materials:

Driver's side outer seal 1 9171459-2

Middle seal 1 9171458-4

Passenger side outer seal 1 9171460-0

Seals

Early cars have seals installed around air vent on the dashboard panel.





The new seals must be installed around air vents on dashboard frame (1).

Installing seals on dashboard frame

Left side:





- Remove backing.

- Press seal into place with the lug towards the combined instrument panel.

Middle:

- Remove backing.





- Press seal into place with groove towards combined instrument panel.

Right-hand side:





- Remove backing.

- Press seal into place with grooves toward combined instrument panel.

Replacing/installing seals

Removing:

Remove old seals from dashboard panel.

Installing panel:

See Service Manual Section 8 (88) SRS (Air bag) 850 1996- TP 8805202.

Check:

Check that shutter opens and closes.

Claims may be submitted under the New Car Limited Warranty when a manufacturing detect is present using claim type : 01
