SLIPPING OR NOT ENGAGED
1. Checking Transmission Control Module (TCM)
- Check that the TCM has the correct P/N.
- Compare the TCM part number with the engine and transmission specifications, refer to Engine to Transaxle Control Module Cross Reference Application Chart. Application and ID
NOTE: Always refer to the manufactures latest information when comparing part numbers.
- Is the TCM part numbers correct?
YES: Proceed to step 3
NO: Proceed to step 2
2. Replacing component
- Try a new transmission control module, refer to replacement. Service and Repair
- Then continue with step 6
3. Connecting the test box
- Preparation:
Ignition OFF
Connect the test box and check ground terminals. Connecting the Test Box
- Then continue with step 4
4. Checking resistance in solenoid SL circuit
- Preparation:
Ignition OFF
The TCM disconnected.
- Connect an ohmmeter between #9 (#A9) and #20 (#A20) on the test box.
- The ohmmeter should read 10-15 Ohms
- If reading is OK:
Proceed to step 6
- If reading is incorrect:
Proceed to step 5
5. Checking for contact resistance and oxidation.
- Check transmission and control module connectors for contact resistance and oxidation and remedy according to Checking Wiring And Connections, Permanent Faults. Checking For Permanent Faults
- Then continue with step 6
6. Test driving
- Preparation:
Ignition OFF
Reconnect connectors and reinstall components.
Connect the TCM
Read off Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) counter and note value.
Test drive the car, refer to Test Drive Form. Test Drive Form
NOTE:
- Refer to Torque Converter Lock-Up Speeds for the driving condition required to engage and disengage lock-up. Mechanical Specifications
- The transmission should have normal operating temperature when test driving because lock-up engagement is dependent on the temperature of the oil in the transmission.
- Do not switch off the ignition.
Read off diagnostic trouble code (DTC) counter without switching off the ignition.
- Is counter value greater than O?
YES: Fault corrected
NO: Proceed to step 7
7. Checking mechanical faults
- Check and remedy mechanical transmission faults according to Mechanical Malfunction Symptom Table. Testing and Inspection
- Then continue with step 6
