Connecting the Box






SPECIAL TOOLS
Test box tool No. 981 3190, or equivalent
Adapter cable tool No 981 3195, or equivalent

PROCEDURES
1. Is the test box connected to the control module?
- Yes:
- No:
Proceed to step 2





2. Connecting the test box

CAUTION: The control module power supply must be disconnected when connecting or disconnecting the measuring box, otherwise it may be damaged.

- Preparation:
Ignition OFF
Disconnect the Transmission Control Module (TCM)
Connect adapter cable tool No. 981 3195 to control module connector and connect test box tool No. 981 3190, or equivalent to adapter.

NOTE: Ensure that the adaptor is the right way round - with the test box cable harness outwards towards the fender.

- Then continue with step 3





3. Checking ground terminals
- Preparation:
Ignition OFF
Transmission control module disconnected.
Turn of all equipment in the car that takes power from the battery (the interior lighting and radio etc).
- Connect an ohmmeter between the battery negative terminal and:
#20 (#A20) on the test box
#29 (#A29) on the test box.
- The ohmmeter should read approx. 0 Ohms for all readings.
- If-reading is OK:
Fault corrected
- If reading is incorrect:
Proceed to step 4





4. Checking for open-circuit, contact resistance and oxidation
- Check ground terminals 31/32 and 31/33 and cables between ground terminals and control module #A20 and #A29 for:
An open-circuit according to step 2 of checking for permanent faults. Checking For Permanent Faults
Contact resistance and oxidation according to step 5 of checking for permanent faults. Checking For Permanent Faults
- Check ground lead between battery and bodywork for:
An open-circuit according to step 2 of checking for permanent faults. Checking For Permanent Faults
Contact resistance and oxidation according to step 5 of checking for permanent faults. Checking For Permanent Faults
- Then continue with step 5





5. Verification
- After carrying out the repair check that the fault has been remedied. As follows:
- Preparation:
Ignition OFF
Turn of all equipment in the car that takes power from the battery (the interior lighting and radio etc).
Transmission control module disconnected
- Connect an ohmmeter between the battery negative terminal and:
#20 (#A20) on the test box
#29 (#A29) on the test box.
- The ohmmeter should read approx. 0 Ohms for all readings.
- If reading is OK:
Fault corrected
- If reading is incorrect:
Proceed to step 6
6. Fault-tracing information
- The fault should now have been diagnosed and corrected.
- Since this is not the case the fault-tracing has failed.
- Do you want to exit fault-tracing?
YES: Fault not corrected
NO: Proceed to step 3
