SRS Sensor Module - Replacement
Preparation For Replacement of Module- Make a note of radio code if anti-theft coded radio installed.
- Ignition off.
- Disconnect battery negative lead.
Removal Of Cigarette Lighter Compartment
Remove:
- cigarette lighter.
- OBD-II cover.
- screws (2 x Torx 20) from cigarette lighter compartment. Lift up cigarette lighter compartment (1).
- two connectors from cigarette lighter socket and bulb holder.
- OBD-II connector (2). Push to one side and press out the connector through the cigarette lighter compartment.
Removing Center Console
- Disconnect connectors at the front of the center console.
- Apply the handbrake and move the gear shift to neutral
Remove:
- screws (2 x Torx 15) from front of the center console.
- handbrake opening cover.
- panel in the center console locker. Undo the back of the panel first.
- screws (2 x Torx 20) under the panel in the center console locker.
- Carefully lift the center console and move it back a little at the same time.
NOTE: If the car has a manual gearbox the gear shift gaiter must be freed from the center console before the center console is removed.
Removal Of Sensor Module
WARNING: The battery must not be connected when the sensor module is removed or replaced.
- Remove the screws (3 x Torx 30) from the sensor module.
- Lift up sensor module.
- Remove the sensor module connector by pressing in latch (1) and folding forward the clip (2).
- Remove the connector from the sensor module following the arrow (3) in the figure.
CAUTION: Never touch the sensor module pins. There is a risk of static discharge which could damage the sensor module.
Installing Sensor Module
CAUTION: Never touch the sensor module pins. There is a risk of static discharge which could damage the sensor module.
WARNING: The battery must not be connected when the sensor module is removed or replaced.
- Install the sensor module connector following the arrow (1) in the figure.
- Lock the sensor module connector in place by folding clip (2) back until it engages the latch.
This should be done before the sensor module is fixed in place.
- Install sensor module (3 x Torx 30). Sensor module tightening torque = 10 Nm (7.4 ft. lbs.).
NOTE: The screws have pressed sheet metal threads and must be positioned so that the existing thread is not damaged. Take care not to damage the thread when installing screws. Use the old screws! When using replacement screws use a type approved for connection to ground.
Warning: It is important that the sensor module be securely mounted onto the bodywork if the sensor module is to operate properly. Because the sensor module is grounded through the ground terminal attached to one of the mounting screws, it is essential to ensure good contact between the mounting screws and the bodywork.
Installation Of Center Console
The handbrake must be engaged and the gear shift in neutral.
- Install the center console by carefully lowering it and pushing it forward a little at the same time.
If the car has a manual gearbox:
- Install gear shift gaiter. Push the gear shift gaiter through the opening in the center console and press the trim into the center console.
- Connect connectors at the front of the center console.
Install:
- screws (2 x Torx 15) from front of the center console.
- handbrake opening cover.
- screws (2 x Torx 20) under the panel in the center console locker.
- panel in the center console locker. Install the front of the panel first.
Installing Cigarette Lighter Compartment
Install:
- two connectors to the cigarette lighter socket and bulb holder in the cigarette lighter compartment.
- OBD-II connector to the cigarette lighter compartment. Press in the connector and push to the side.
- cigarette lighter compartment (2 x Torx 20).
- OBD-II cover.
- cigarette lighter.
Final Check
WARNING: Ensure that nobody is in the car when the battery is being connected.
When all components have been reinstalled:
- Switch the ignition to position II.
- Connect battery negative lead.
- Connect the Volvo Scan Tool (ST).
Check for any diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs).
