Replacing Front Seat Belts

Preparations

Ignition off and disconnect the battery negative lead








Check that the customer has provided the radio code.
Warning! The ignition must be in position II during assembly. Then connect the battery negative terminal. Ensure that nobody is in the car when the battery is being connected.

Disassembly






Front seat belt

Press in the catch.
To remove or install the seat compartment and secure or unsecure the SIPS airbag.






B-post inner panel and connector Warning! After a collision replace both the seat belt tensioners, seat belts and seat belt buckles. This applies even if no-one was sitting in the passenger seat.

Warning! The battery must not be connected when the ignition cable connector is being removed or installed.






Seat belt (inertia) reels and seat belt tensioners

- 2 M14 seat belt reel screws. When installing, tighten to 40 Nm
- 1 Torx 30 seat belt tensioner screw.
When installing, tighten to 6 Nm.

Warning! Under no circumstances use an ohmmeter or other live measuring instrument to take readings on a disconnected non-deployed seat belt tensioner. This could deploy it.

Warning! The seat belt tensioner must never be taken apart, repaired or moved to another vehicle. For information about handling replaced seat belt tensioners.

Removing the seat belt buckle






Hint: Adjust the seat to its center position length ways so that all the mounting points are accessible. Also adjust the seat to its highest position.

Remove:

- the connectors (under the front edge of the seat)
- the side piece from the front mounting for the seat
- the side piece from the rear mounting for the seat
- the four screws for the seat mounting
- one screw for the seat belt buckle
- the clips for the cable harness.

Hint: Angle the seat backward. Secure the seat so that it does not fall forwards.

Installing the seat belt buckle

Install:

- the clips for the cable harness
- one screw for the seat belt buckle. Tighten to 48 Nm
- the four screws for the seat mounting
- the side piece from the rear mounting for the seat
- the side piece from the front mounting for the seat
- the connectors.

Completion







Check seat belt function

Check that the seat belt (inertia) reel locks as it should. Test the function: Pull it out and jerk it repeatedly.



Ignition in position II. Reconnect the battery negative lead






Warning! Ensure that nobody is in the car when the battery is being connected.

Check

Check that the SRS indicator lamp in the combined instrument panel is not constantly lit.

Note! Check that the SRS indicator lamp is not defective: Turn the key to position II. The SRS indicator lamp should light and go out after approximately 15 seconds.
