Checking Oil Quality

1. Check the oil

NOTE: Only ATF oil that meets Dexron IIE and Ford Mercon standards may be used.

- Check the oil by taking a sample with the dipstick.
- Discolored or burnt smell?
Check whether the diagnostic unit has recorded any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs), AT-235 (2-3-5).
Smell the oil if DTC AT-235 (2-3-5) is displayed.
Also fault-trace transmission according to DTC AT-235 (2-3-5).
Change oil.
- Is there water in the oil (gray discoloration)?
Determine the cause of water in the oil.
Replace transmission according to See other manual:
Flush oil cooler, pipes and oil hoses.
