Installation



Special Tools
- Counterhold Tool No. 999 5461, or equivalent
- Counterhold Tool No. 999 5540, or equivalent
- Torque Sleeve Tool No. 115 8147-7, or equivalent

Universal Tool
- Protractor tool No. 951 2050, or equivalent

NOTE: The Procedure is the same for both LH and RH driveshafts unless stated otherwise.

Preparation
- Check that ABS sensor and sensor wheel are free of dirt.

Procedure





1. Install driveshaft to transmission.

NOTE: Take care not to damage driveshaft seal or boots (gaiter).

RH Driveshaft:
- Install bearing cap.
Tighten to: 25 Nm.
- Install splashguard under engine (earlier models only).








2 . LH driveshaft:
Check that ABS sensor wheel on driveshaft is free of dirt.
Push driveshaft in correctly so its circlip engages in [1][2]differential groove.
Check by carefully pushing in inboard driveshaft joint.
Install driveshaft in hub:

NOTE: Apply metal glue 1161370-0 to driveshaft splines as shown in illustration.

Twist and remove MacPherson strut and fit driveshaft into hub.
Use a socket wrench to hold link arm down.
Install a new driveshaft nut, hand-tight.

NOTE: Oil nut threads and flange.





3. Install
- Link arm onto ball joint. Use new nuts.

NOTE: Check that mating surfaces on ball joint and link arm are clean and free of grease.

Tighten from inside and out to 18 Nm + 120°.
Use protractor 951 2050.
Apply rustproofing agent to area between ball joint, link arm and nuts carefully and correctly.
Use rustproofing agent part No. 1161432-8, or equivalent.
- Link arm to anti-roll bar with new nuts and tighten to 50 Nm.





4. Tighten driveshaft center nut.
Use counterhold tool No. 999 5461 (4 wheel bolts) or tool No. 999 5540 (5 wheel bolts) and protractor tool No. 951 2050, or equivalents, and tighten to: 120 Nm + 60°.
Now remove tool.
Lock driveshaft center nut.
Using a chisel, tap the locking nut flange into the driveshaft slot.





5. Install:
- Brake pipe/ABS lead bracket.

NOTE: Check that ABS sensor seat is absolutely clean first

- First clean ABS sensor with a soft brush; then fit it to wheel shaft and tighten to: 10 Nm.





6. Install front wheel.
Check that brake disc and pad contact surfaces are clean.
Lubricate hub center locating pin in front of pad with rustproofing agent part No. 1161038-3, or equivalent.
Install bolts, but do not tighten.
Then tighten in pairs to: 110 Nm..
When tightening using a socket wrench, use torque sleeve tool No. 1158147-7, or equivalent.
