Removal

1. Disconnect battery ground lead.
2. Drain system of refrigerant.
3. Remove dashboard.

In engine compartment:




4. Disconnect heater hoses at firewall. Clamp each hose with a hose clamp before disconnecting. Remove plate washer.




5. Undo evaporator and air receiver connections at firewall.
6. Remove air receiver/dryer from suspension strut tower. First undo connector.


NOTE: Plug connections immediately, including air receiver connections if unit is not to be replaced.





7. Disconnect vacuum lines from firewall.
8. Remove:
- plate washer and foam rubber seal at firewall penetration
- climate unit from firewall.

Inside car:




9. Remove heater and defroster ducts. (Do not remove duct through steering column mounting.)




10. Disconnect following leads from climate unit:
- positive terminal strip
- connector for ambient temperature sensor, blower motor, power stage and control module (if applicable).




11. Disconnect connector for:
- coolant temperature sensor (connector at right in illustration)
- solenoid valves
- servomotor.




12. Lift and tilt back relay board. Also remove relay board bracket.




13. Remove screw securing climate unit to dashboard on right-hand side.
14. Undo mounting above vacuum tank.




15. Remove vents from floor air distribution box.




16. Remove floor air distribution box. Carefully prise air ducts upward while pulling air distribution box to left.




17. Fold back carpet and disconnect evaporator drain.
18. Lift out climate unit towards right.
