Trim strips, weatherstrips and door mirror
Badge
Remove:
- Heat the badge cautiously. Use a hot-air gun.
- Carefully lift up the edge of the badge.
NOTE: The car should be at room temperature when installing the badge.
Install:
- wash the mating surface on the bodywork thoroughly. Use protective gloves and a soft cloth soaked with "Cleaner H".
NOTE: Avoid skin contact with "Cleaner H".
- measure and mark up the badge positioning according to the dimensions in the illustration alongside.
HINT: Use a magnet to position the badges.
- remove the backing from the adhesive area of the badge.
- press the badge onto the body.
- check the edge of the badge all the way round and adjust it so that the whole adhesive area bonds onto the car body.
Trim moldings
Heat the panel
- Carefully heat the panel until the trim molding comes away.
Installation
- Reuse the weatherstrip if possible. Remove old tape and install new.
CAUTION:
- The mating surface must be completely free of dirt and grease.
- Both the weatherstrip and the car must be at room temperature.
Trim and weatherstrips
HINT: This section describes how to install the weatherstrips. All weatherstrips are taped or secured in place using pressure. This means that the weatherstrips can be pulled off unless otherwise specified.
The weatherstrip for the windshield frame
Removal
- Press the rear edge of the molding until it releases.
- If the weatherstrip is stuck, heat the front edge carefully using a hot-air gun.
- Clean the surface of the bodywork. Use diluted isopropanol. Mix one part isopropanol with one part water to achieve best results.
WARNING: Avoid skin contact, use protective gloves and protective goggles.
- Ensure that ventilation is good.
CAUTION: Both the weatherstrip and the car must be at room temperature.
Installation
- Reuse the weatherstrip if possible. Remove the old tape. Install new tape.
- Fix the molding carefully so that the exterior longitudinal measurement and alignment are correct.
- Pull the backing tape off the weatherstrip while pressing the weatherstrip hard onto the bodywork with your right hand.
- Tap the weatherstrip around the entire window opening using a rubber mallet to ensure that the weatherstrip is firmly in place.
- After the molding has been applied pull a weatherstrip tool over the molding as illustrated.
Door opening weatherstrip
Remove:
- the trim strip.
- the A-post panel.
Installation
- Reuse the weatherstrip if possible.
- Press the weatherstrip into place.
- Tap the weatherstrip around the entire window opening using a rubber mallet to ensure that it is firmly in place.
Removal
- If the weatherstrip is stuck, heat it carefully using a hot-air gun.
NOTE: The hot-air gun should only be used by the A-post.
Installation
- Reuse the weatherstrip if possible. Remove the old tape. Install new tape.

Weatherstrip for the front side window
Removal
- The front side window should be down when the molding is removed.
- Remove 1 press clip in the rear edge of the door.
Installation
- Reuse the weatherstrip if possible.
- Press the weatherstrip into place. Ensure that the weatherstrip aligns correctly at the front edge first.
- Tap the weatherstrip around the entire window opening using a rubber mallet to ensure that the weatherstrip is firmly in place.
- Install the press clip in the rear edge of the door.
Inner rear side window weatherstrip
Removal
- The rear side window should be down when the molding is removed.
- Remove the rear side panel.
Installation
- Reuse the weatherstrip if possible.
- Press the weatherstrip into place. Ensure that the weatherstrip aligns with the exterior weatherstrip.
Outer rear side window weatherstrip
Removal
- The rear side window should be down when the molding is removed.
- Press the molding sideways into the car.
Installation
- Reuse the weatherstrip if possible.
- Press the weatherstrip into place. Ensure that the weatherstrip aligns with the front edge first.
Inner weatherstrip soft-top opening
Installation
- Reuse the weatherstrip if possible.
- Press the weatherstrip into place.
- Tap the weatherstrip around the entire window opening using a rubber mallet to ensure that the weatherstrip is firmly in place.
Outer weatherstrip soft-top opening
Removal
- Fold up the soft-top cover. Open the trunk lid.
Installation
- Reuse the weatherstrip if possible.
- Press the weatherstrip into place.
- Tap the weatherstrip around the entire window opening using a rubber mallet to ensure that the weatherstrip is firmly in place.
Metal trim strip
NOTE: The bottom edge of the molding should lie against the rear view mirror as illustrated.
- The mating surface must be completely free of dirt and grease.
- Clean the inside of the trim strip using cleaner H (P/N 1161516-8).
WARNING: Avoid skin contact, use protective gloves and protective goggles.
- Ensure that ventilation is good.
CAUTION: Both the weatherstrip and the car must be at room temperature.
Installation
- Reuse the weatherstrip if possible. Remove the old tape. Install new tape.
- Press the trim strip into place onto the weatherstrips around the door opening while pulling the backing tape off the trim strip.
CAUTION: It is important that pressure is exerted on the weatherstrip to ensure that the tape comes into complete contact with the bodywork.
Trim strip, sill trim panel
Heat the panel
- Carefully heat the panel until the trim molding comes away.
Installation
- Remove old tape.
- Install the molding. Gap A=25 mm.
CAUTION:
- The mating surface must be completely free of dirt and grease.
- both the weatherstrip and the car must be at room temperature.
