General Information

Connecting and disconnecting control modules







Always switch off the ignition before connecting and disconnecting control modules, connectors and the breakout box.

The ignition must be switched off when taking readings with an ohmmeter.

Temperature







The control modules must not be heated to above 80 degree C. Remove control modules when stoving for example.

Arc welding
Always disconnect the battery negative lead to prevent a short-circuit.

Position the welding ground as close to the welding site as possible, otherwise different ground potentials may be generated in different components.

When welding close to an electronic module, the unit must be removed to avoid heat damage.

Replacement
Do not replace a control module without checking its wiring and components. Otherwise the new component may be damaged in the same way as the old one.

Radio

NOTE: Remember that if the car has no voltage, the anti-theft radio code must be activated.

Check that the customer has provided the radio code.

Alarm







When replacing the battery on cars equipped with the VGLA alarm, the siren does not need to be disconnected.

If the car battery needs replacing, disconnect the siren function that:

NOTE: Earlier sirens with a rechargeable battery could be shut off with a special key. This does not apply to cars with the new GA II alarm system.

To disconnect the siren function in the new alarms the following applies:
- Deactivate alarm.
- Switch the ignition on and off
- Disconnect the battery lead within 15 seconds of switching off the ignition

The alarm siren is reconnected when the battery lead is connected to the battery.
