Checking camshaft adjustment

Removing components





Remove:
- battery negative terminal.
- plastic hoses turbocharger (TC)/charge air cooler (CAC) and air cleaner (ACL)/turbocharger (TC)
Remove the clamp to intake manifold at turbocharger (TC) 1, 2, 3 and turn the pipe upper section to the firewall.
(Only B6284 T)
- plastic pipe over engine.
(Only B52X4 T)
- cross member.
- right front wheel.
- plastic nuts for cover in fender liner.
- camshaft position sensor (CMP) housing and trigger wheel.
- camshaft rear edge cover.
- upper camshaft belt cover.
Lift up servo reservoir, place over engine.

Note! Ensure that the oil does not run out of the ventilation hole in the filler cap.

Remove:
- hose between expansion tank and water cooler by the reservoir. Seal the hose with lock grip pliers.
- auxiliaries belt.
- front camshaft belt cover.

Continue - Position the engine according to marking

Place upper camshaft belt cover.
Turn crankshaft clockwise until the markings on the crankshaft and camshaft pulleys correspond.
Turn crankshaft a further 1/4 turn clockwise and then back again until the markings correspond.

Remove:
- upper camshaft belt cover.

Remove:
- starter motor mounting screws.
Pull out the starter motor and put to one side.

Remove:
- blind cover plug for hole for adjustment tool.
Turn the crankshaft slightly clockwise. Install camshaft adjustment tool 999 5451 ADJUSTMENT TOOL 999 5451 Adjustment Tool , ensure that it bottoms against the cylinder block.
Turn the crankshaft back counter-clockwise until it stops against the adjustment tool.
Check that the marking on the crankshaft timing gear pulley corresponds with the marking on the oil pump.

Select the appropriate engine variant:
1. B6304 S
2. B52X4 T and B6284 T
3. B52X4 S

Install:
- camshaft adjustment tool 999 5452 CAMSHAFT ADJUSTMENT TOOL 999 5452 Camshaft Adjustment Tool at the rear edge of the camshafts.
Screw the section onto the intake side camshaft first.
Turn the intake side camshaft carefully clockwise with the camshaft adjustment tool until the exhaust side camshaft adjustment section can be held in place.
The tool sections should be parallel.

Are the tool sections parallel?

Yes - DONE

Install:
- camshaft adjustment tool 999 5452 CAMSHAFT ADJUSTMENT TOOL 999 5452 Camshaft Adjustment Tool at the rear edge of the camshafts.
Screw the section onto the exhaust side camshaft first.
Turn the exhaust side camshaft carefully clockwise with the camshaft adjustment tool until the intake side camshaft adjustment section can be held in place.
The tool sections should be parallel.

Are the tool sections parallel?

Yes - DONE

Screw the adjuster sections together to one section.
Hold camshaft adjustment tool 999 5452 CAMSHAFT ADJUSTMENT TOOL 999 5452 Camshaft Adjustment Tool at the rear edge of the camshafts.

Are the tool sections parallel?

Yes - DONE
