Checking resistance in wheel sensor circuit








- Ignition off.
- Control module disconnected.
Connect an ohmmeter between breakout box:
- #4 and #11 (diagnostic trouble code (DTC) ABS-211)
- #3 and #18 (diagnostic trouble code (DTC) ABS-212)









The ohmmeter should read approximately 1040-1160 ohms.

OK - Checking signal cables

Not OK - Checking wheel sensor resistance

- Ignition off.
- Remove wheels for better access.
- Carefully clean around wheel sensor connector. Brush and blow clean.
- Disconnect wheel sensor.
Connect an ohmmeter between wheel sensor connector terminals 1 and 2.









The ohmmeter should read approximately 1040-1160 ohms.

OK - Checking for contact resistance and oxidation

Not OK - Replacing component

The cause of the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) has been loose connections in the wheel sensor connectors.
Check wheel sensor connector for contact resistance and oxidation and remedy according to Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring and Terminals. Permanent Fault.

Select "Continue" when the fault has been repaired.

Replacing component
Try a new wheel sensor according to Front wheel sensor, replacement Front Wheel Sensor, Replacement.

Checking signal cables








- Ignition off.
- Connect control module.
- Ignition on.
Connect a voltmeter between breakout box:
- #8 and #4 (diagnostic trouble code (DTC) ABS-211)
- #8 and #3 (diagnostic trouble code (DTC) ABS-212)









The voltmeter should read approximately 2.3 V.

OK - Checking wheel bearings

Low - Checking for a short-circuit

High - Checking for a short-circuit

Check cable between wheel sensor connector terminal:
- 2 and control module #4 (diagnostic trouble code (DTC) ABS-211)
- 1 and control module #11 (diagnostic trouble code (DTC) ABS-211)
- 2 and control module #3 (diagnostic trouble code (DTC) ABS-212)
- 1 and control module #18 (diagnostic trouble code (DTC) ABS-212)
for a short-circuit to ground according to Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring and Terminals. Permanent Fault.









Select "Continue" when the fault has been repaired.

for a short-circuit to supply voltage according to Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring and Terminals. Permanent Fault.









Select "Continue" when the fault has been repaired.

Check that the wheel bearing for the relevant wheel is not sticking.





Is the wheel bearing OK?

Yes - Checking brakes

No - Corrective action

Corrective action
Remedy wheel bearing as necessary. Front wheel bearings are not adjustable.

Select "Continue" when the fault has been repaired.

Checking brakes

Hint: A sticking brake can block one or both wheels when the car is being driven. This will mean that the wheel sensor signal is not transmitted.

Check that brake calipers are not sticking and blocking the wheels.





Are the brakes OK?

Yes - Checking wheel sensor

No - Corrective action

Remedy brakes as necessary.

- Ignition off.

Note! Disconnect wheel sensor.

- Remove wheel for better access.
Check that wheel sensor is fitted tightly against shaft/hub. Check that there is no dirt between the sensor and mating surface.
Remove wheel sensor according to Front wheel sensor, replacement Front Wheel Sensor, Replacement and check that the tip of the wheel sensor is intact.





Is the wheel sensor OK?

Yes - Checking pulse wheel

No - Remedying and replacing component

Remedying and replacing component
Loose wheel sensors are installed according to Front wheel sensor, replacement Front Wheel Sensor, Replacement.
Replace damaged wheel sensors according to Front wheel sensor, replacement Front Wheel Sensor, Replacement.





Select "Continue" when the fault has been repaired.

Check that pulse wheel is mounted properly, is not damaged, cracked etc. (all teeth present).

Is the pulse wheel OK?

Yes - Checking for contact resistance and oxidation

No - Replacing component

Hint: After repair it is necessary to check that the fault has been rectified




- Ignition off
- Reconnect the contacts, components etc.
- Ignition on
- Go into running value, list 1
Note the wheel speeds
Test drive the vehicle as per. Maintain an even speed without turning

Warning! The ABS and EBD systems are not available while Volvo Diagnostics is activated Take great care when test driving as there is a serious risk of the wheels locking when braking

Check that the wheel in quesion has the same speed as the other wheels





Has the wheel in question the same speed as the other wheels ?

Yes - VERIFIED

No - VERIFICATION FAILED
