Connecting the Breakout Box
Connecting the breakout box
Special Tools: 981 3190, 981 3194
HINT: The breakout box can be connected to the control module, the CD-ROM player and the TMC/FM receiver.
- Ignition off.
- Expose the control module.
- Expose the CD-ROM player.
- Expose TMC receiver.
- Expose the FM receiver.
- Expose display.
- Disconnect the module.
- Check that the male and female terminals on the module connectors are intact and secure (cannot be pushed in) and that the wiring to the female terminals is properly attached to the terminals.
- Check the terminals relevant to the diagnostic trouble code (DTC)/symptom especially well.
- Connect adapter 981 3194 to module connectors (towards cabling) and connect breakout box 981 3190 to adapter.
- The control module "terminals #A1 - #A30 correspond to #1 - #30 on the breakout box and #B1 - #B16 corresponds to #31 - #46 on the breakout box.
- The CD-ROM player terminals #1 - #16 correspond to #31 - #46 on the breakout box.
- The TMC/FM receiver terminals #1 - #10 correspond to #47 - #56 on the breakout box.
- The breakout box is designed to facilitate reading off the control module input and output signals when the control module is connected; and the the cable and component resistance when the control module is disconnected. Using a breakout box reduces the risk of accidental short-circuits and damaged connector pins.
NOTE: Continuing this check is irrelevant if the TMC/FM receiver does not have a separate ground terminal.
