Moving the heater to its service position
Removing
Preparations
Location of components see Additional heater 912-D Locations.
Warning! Protective gloves and protective goggles should be used for the following operations because of the risk of fuel spillage.
Remove the lower air baffle.
Disconnect the fuel line (11 mm wrench) from the fuel pump (counterhold 14 mm wrench) and install rubber plug P/N 1346125.
Slacken off sub-frame
Slacken off left front sub-frame screw, the frame will fall away.
Disconnect the fuel line from the plastic clips on the front edge of the frame, in order to access the screws to the additional heater.
Heater
Slacken off the screw (1) slightly.
Remove the screw holding the heater to the bracket and the screw holding the heater to the sub-frame.
Lift the heater upwards/outward to release it from the bracket at the top. (The top of the heater is hooked onto the bracket.)
Move the heater downwards/forwards and let it hang in the engine coolant hoses.
Note! Differences in the heater mounting can occur on earlier cars.
Vacuum tank
Remove the vacuum tank.
Disconnect the hose to the vacuum tank.
Note! Make a note of how the hose is routed. It should be routed in the same way when it is reinstalled.
Installing
Heater
Reinstall components in reverse order.
Screw the fuel line onto the fuel pump (11 mm wrench) (counterhold 14 mm wrench). Torque to 14 Nm .
Install heater retaining screws. Torque to 25 Nm .
Securing sub-frame
Install a new screw with washers. Lubricate screw thread. Tighten to 105 Nm , then angle-tighten to 120° .
Secure fuel line in the plastic clips on the front edge of the frame.
Finishing
Test start the heater.
Check heater function according to Test driving of Additional heater/Parking heater Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview.
Check for leaks.
Install the lower air baffle.
Top up coolant if necessary.
Check that no diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) have been stored while the repair was carried out.
