Vehicle Damage Warnings
Vehicles With SRS (Airbag)/SIPS Bag.
WARNING:
Vehicles equipped with SRS (Supplemental Restraint System)/SIPS bag must be handled with extra care when carrying out repairs in order to avoid:
1. Personal injuries occurring during repair work.
2. Damage to or faulty function of the SRS/SIPS bag systems.
Work involving the SRS/SIPS bag systems or other components in the vehicle that is likely to affect the SRS/SIPS bag systems should always be carried out by an authorized Volvo workshop.
In case of doubt, consult the SRS and SIPS bag service information.
Does the vehicle have SRS/SIPS bags?
Vehicles with SRS are easiest to recognize as they have the letters SRS written on the center plate of the steering wheel. If the vehicle also has an airbag on the passenger side, the letters SRS are stamped on the dashboard above the glove box. As of model year 1993 SRS vehicles are also equipped with explosive seatbelt tensioners.
SIPS-bags are only found on SRS vehicles from 1995 onwards. SIPS bag decals are located e.g. in the windshield and on the seat compartment.
General recommendations
- Extra caution should be observed when working on or around SRS, SIPS and IC components.
- Ensure that wires are not trapped, rubbed or drilled through.
- Never install accessories by the sensors.
- Where applicable, work on the steering wheel, steering shaft or steering gear must be carried out in accordance with the methods in the SRS section of VADIS. Read the appropriate sections in VADIS.
