Removal and Replacement






Battery, replacing

Note! The illustrations in this service information are used for different model years and/or models. Some variation may occur. However, the essential information in the illustrations is always correct.

Method contents

Note! During model year 2004 a new battery mounting was introduced whereby the complete battery cover (large cover) was replaced with a battery cover which only covers the battery's positive terminal (small cover). Select replacement method as follows

Removing the battery

Note! To determine whether or not the battery is working, the performance of the battery must be checked in accordance with: Fault-tracing and testing the battery Component Tests and General Diagnostics (if not performed earlier).





Remove:
- the floor hatch
- the nuts, 2, which attaches the mounting to the floor and undo the nut holding the mounting to the rear crossmember
- the mounting
- the splash guard.





Caution! For removing/installing battery cables, see: Battery, disconnecting Battery Disconnecting.

Pull the drain hose off the side of the battery

Remove:
- the battery cables from the battery terminals
- the screw and the bracket.
Lift out the battery.

Installing the battery

Caution! When removing and installing the battery leads. See Battery, disconnecting Battery Disconnecting

Install:
- the battery
- the screw and the bracket, tighten to 25 Nm
- the battery cables on the battery terminals, tighten to 2.5 Nm
- the draining hose on the battery end plate
- the protective cover
- the mounting
- the nuts, 2, which attaches the mounting to the floor and tighten the nut holding the mounting to the rear crossmember
- the floor hatch.

Removing the battery

Note! To determine whether or not the battery is working, the performance of the battery must be checked in accordance with: Fault-tracing and testing the battery Component Tests and General Diagnostics (if not performed earlier).




Fold up the floor hatch

Remove:
- the nut (1) which attaches the mounting to the floor and undo the nut holding the mounting to the rear crossmember
- the mounting.
Bend up the terminal cover (3).

Pull the drain hose off the side of the battery

Remove:
- the battery cables from the battery terminals
- the screw and the bracket.
Lift out the battery.

Installing the battery





Caution! For removing/installing battery cables, see: Battery, disconnecting Battery Disconnecting.

Transfer the terminal cover to the new battery.

Install:
- the battery
- the screw and the bracket, tighten to 25 Nm
- the battery cables on the battery terminals, tighten to 2.5 Nm
- the draining hose on the battery end plate
- the terminal cover (3).

Caution! The mounting must be fitted on the right-hand screw (1).

Install:
- the mounting
- the nut (1) which attaches the mounting to the floor and tighten the nut holding the mounting to the rear crossmember
- the floor hatch.
