Calibrating the Special Tool

Calibrating the Special Tool

Special Tools: 951 1506, 998 8695, 919 4732, 861 8437

Calibration
It is important that the special tool is operating correctly when fault-tracing and inspecting the SRS system. A defective special tool will cause the on-board diagnostic (OBD) system to give false readings and will make fault-tracing and checking more difficult.

To ensure that the special tool is fault-free, tools 951 1506 and 998 8695 must be calibrated before use. Use an ohmmeter. Tools 919 4732 and 861 8437 do not need to be calibrated, only checked for damage.

The following applies to tools 951 1506 and 998 8695:
- Use an ohmmeter to read off the resistance in the special tool
- Connect the ohmmeter test probes to the terminal pin on the special tool
- The ohmmeter must read between 1.8 and 2.5 ohms
- If the ohmmeter gives a different reading or if the tool is damaged, scrap the tool and replace it with a new one.

The following applies to tools 919 4732 and 861 8437:
- If the tool is damaged, scrap the tool and replace it with a new one.
