Internal fault

Checking the steering wheel angle








- Ignition off
- Disconnect the connector for the control module for the steering wheel angle sensor
- Disconnect the connector for the steering wheel module (SWM)
- Check the connectors for control module for the steering wheel angle sensor and for the steering wheel angle sensor. Check for contact resistance and oxidation according to Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring and Terminals. Permanent Fault
- Reinstall the components, reconnect the connectors etc.
- Ignition on
- Read off the steering wheel angle.
Turn the steering wheel between both limit positions. Check that the steering wheel angle is updated and reaches a maximum of +710° or -710°.

Was the angle in excess of 710 in either direction?

Yes - Checking the installation

No - Fault Found

- Ignition off.
The diagnostic trouble code (DTC) indicates that the steering wheel module (SWM) or the steering wheel angle sensor is incorrectly installed.
Check that the steering wheel module (SWM) and the steering wheel angle sensor are correctly installed.

- Ignition off
- Reinstall the components, reconnect the connectors etc.
- Ignition on
- Read off the steering wheel angle.
Turn the steering wheel between both lock positions. Check that the steering wheel angle is updated and reaches a maximum of +600° or -600°.

No - VERIFICATION FAILED
