Bracket for the carphone holder

Preparations




- Turn the ignition key to position O
- Cars with manual gearboxes: Remove the ignition key
- Disconnect the battery negative lead.

Note! Wait at least five minutes before disassembling the connectors or removing other electrical equipment.

Illustration A applies to cars equipped with a centre storage locker




- Carefully remove the storage locker surround. First pry up the surround using a weatherstrip tool
- Remove the four screws around the storage locker. Place the locker to one side.

Illustration B applies to cars equipped with a centrally-mounted loudspeaker




- Carefully pry the loudspeaker grille up using a weatherstrip tool. Remove the loudspeaker grille
- Remove the four screws around the loudspeaker
- Lift up the loudspeaker bracket and the loudspeaker. Disconnect the connector
- Place the loudspeaker to one side.

Illustration C applies to cars equipped with RTI




- Carefully remove the panel around the RTI display. First pry the panel up using a weatherstrip tool
- Remove the four screws in the holder for the display
- Lift up the entire RTI unit. Disconnect the connector for the display. Where applicable, disconnect the connector for the centrally mounted loudspeaker
- Place the unit to one side.




- Lock the steering wheel in the lowest, rearmost position
- Remove the rubber seal from the upper steering column cover. First carefully pry the five catches loose. Use a weatherstrip tool.




- Pry out the two clips (1) in the bottom edge of the combined instrument panel. Carefully remove the combined instrument panel surround
- Then pull the surround back until the three clips (2) in the upper edge release.

Note! Do not damage the dashboard.




- Remove the four screws around the combined instrument panel
- Lift the combined instrument panel out
- Disconnect the connector on the reverse of the panel
- Place the panel to one side.

Installation




- Remove the screw (1) securing the semi circular section of the dashboard above the combined instrument panel
- Install the bracket (2) using the screw (1) for the semi circular section.




- Press the bracket against the mating surfaces where the three holes are to be drilled
- Hold the bracket firmly in place. Drill the two marked holes through the bracket and the dashboard. Use a -5 mm (13/64") drill bit. Use a 25 mm (1") drill stop
- Insert any wiring into position, as illustrated.




- Insert the bracing plate (1) through the hole in the dashboard
- Tighten the bracket (2) using two of the screws (3) from the kit. At the same time press the bracket against the mating surfaces
- Tighten the screws (3) hard so that the bracket is pressed into the side of the dashboard and so that the bracket is level with it
- Drill out the last hole using a -5 mm (13/64") drill bit
- Insert the bracing plate (5) through the hole in the dashboard
- Tighten the bracket using a screw (4) from the kit.




- Reinstall the combined instrument panel
- When installing the Hands Free or similar: file out a groove (1) in the surround for the combined instrument panel for the wiring from the carphone holder. File the hole so that it is large enough for any excess wiring to be routed through the hole and hidden on the inside of the dashboard
- If necessary, file out a groove (2) in the combined instrument panel surround for the installed bracket
- Reinstall the surround
- Press the rubber seal into place on the upper steering column cover.

Installing the carphone holder on the bracket




- Install the bracing plate (1) and the cover (2) on the bracket (4), using the screw (3) from the kit. Do not tighten fully yet
- Secure the mounting plate (5) for the carphone holder using the screws (6) from the kit
- Tighten the screw (3).

Note! The mounting plate (5) is part of the carphone kit. It is not supplied with this kit.

Finishing work

Applies to cars with a storage compartment:
- Install the storage compartment. Tighten using the four screws
- Reinstall the surround for the storage compartment.

Applies to cars with a centrally-mounted loudspeaker:
- Connect the connector to the loudspeaker
- Reinstall the loudspeaker and bracket. Tighten the loudspeaker and bracket using the four screws
- Reinstall the loudspeaker grille.

Applies to cars with RTI:
- Connect the connector to the RTI display (and to the centrally-mounted loudspeaker if installed)
- Reinstall the RTI unit and holder and, where appropriate, the centrally-mounted loudspeaker. Tighten the four screws
- Install the panel.




- Turn the ignition key to position II
- Reconnect the battery negative lead.
