Note! These installation instructions apply to left-hand drive vehicles. When installing in a right-hand drive vehicle, the procedure is carried out on the opposite side and/or mirrored. (Where the operation differs, right-hand versions are also displayed with text and images.)
Note! During installation of the antenna, the windshield must maintain a temperature of at least +20° C (68° F).
Preparations
- Turn the ignition switch to position 0.
- Disconnect the battery negative lead.
Note! Wait at least three minutes before unplugging the connectors or removing other electrical equipment.
- Press in the clips so that the ventilation grille is released.
- Remove the grille by prizing with a weatherstrip tool for example.
- Remove the connector (1) for the hazard warning flashers.
- Remove the decor strip on the dashboard by carefully pulling the strip straight out, as close to the mounting point (1) as possible.
- Detach the panel (1) and the gear selector lever boot using a weatherstrip tool.
- Move the gear selector lever to the rear position.
- Pull the panel with boot (1) rearward and turn as illustrated.
- Remove the screws (2) from the dashboard environment panel.
- Angle the dashboard environment panel outwards so that it is possible to insert a couple of fingers between the center console and the short side of the dashboard environment panel.
- Pull the dashboard environment panel downward maintaining the same angle and remove the dashboard environment panel. The panel is well secured, so some force is required to detach the panel. Disconnect the connectors on the reverse side, and place the dashboard environment panel to one side.
Note! If any of the outer hooks break off, these must be repaired. The method for this can be found in the Workshop Manual in the section about the dashboard.
- Remove the screws (1) from the bracket for the radio.
- Pull the bracket with the radio outwards at the lower edge, and push the whole unit downwards/rearward.
- Disconnect the connectors from the radio and remove the radio.
- If a 12 pin gray connector is not connected to the radio, the car is equipped with an external amplifier. (This information is used later in step 35.)
- Lock the steering wheel in the lowest, rearmost position.
- Remove the rubber seal from the upper steering column cover by carefully prying off the hooks.
- Make marks for the cable cut-out as illustrated, 6 mm (15/64").
- Remove the covers (1) and the screws (2).
- Remove the panel by angling the upper edge outwards and pulling out.
- File the cut-out according to the markings.
- Remove the four screws for the combined instrument panel.
- Pull out the combined instrument panel. Disconnect the connector on the reverse of the combined instrument panel.
- Place the combined instrument panel to one side.
- Take the telephone holder's mounting plate and antenna cable from the kit.
- Press in the aerial cable connector onto the rear of the mounting plate.
- Take the bracket from the kit.
- Install the bracket with the mounting plate. Screw them together with screws and nuts from the kit.
- Mark out the holes for the telephone holder (1) by aligning the edge of the holder with the edge of the hole (2). Press the holder up 3 mm (7/64") and drill holes with a -5 mm (13/64") drill bit. Use a -20 mm (3/4") drill stop.
- Install the holder in the panel. Insert the plate (3) through the hole for the ventilation nozzle. Screw in the holder and plate with the two screws from the kit.
- Route the cables from the mounting plate through the hole behind the combined instrument panel in to the center console.
Installing the antenna
- Remove the left-hand end panel from the dashboard by sliding it rearwards slightly, and then pulling it off grasping the existing handle.
Note! There are two versions of A pillar panel mountings nearest the headlining, see image A or B.
Illustration A
- Detach the door sealing molding (1) at the panel.
- Pull the panel straight inwards into the car.
- Lift up the panel.
- Cut off the safety clip (2).
Note! Ensure that the guide lugs on the panel do not scratch the dashboard.
- Turn the safety clip a quarter turn. Remove the safety clip.

- Detach the door sealing molding at the panel.
- Remove the two steel clips.
- Pull the panel straight inwards into the car.
- Lift up the panel.
- Clean the inside of the windshield using isopropanol.
- Remove the protective film from the antenna and position as illustrated.
- Pull the antenna cable down along the A pillar towards the dashboard and out by the end.
- Secure the cable using three tie straps.
Warning! The inflatable curtain (IC) is located inside the A-pillar panel, it is important that the cable is not positioned on it.
Installing the microphone
- Mark as illustrated and drill out the holes for the microphone's mounting plate. Use a -3 mm (1/8") drill bit.
- Remove any swarf.
- Install the mounting plate on the A-post panel using two screws from the kit.
Warning! The inflatable curtain (IC) is located inside the A-post panel. It is important to file off the screws securing the mounting plate if necessary, so that they just fit through the panel.
- Check how much of the screws protrudes on the reverse. Unscrew the screws. File off the screws to the correct length.
- Reinstall the screws.
- Press the microphone from the kit into place on the mounting plate.
- Route the microphone cable on the inside of the A-post panel. Secure the cable using pieces of butyl tape.
- Install a new safety clip in the A pillar panel.
Note! It is important to use a new safety clip when installing.
- Route the microphone cable so that it protrudes from the end of the dashboard.
- Press the A-pillar panel into place.
- Reinstall the weatherstrip in the door opening.
Warning! It is important that the safety clip/hook and panel are correctly installed so that the SRS system is not affected.
- Pull the microphone cable and antenna cable through the dashboard's left-hand end, into the compartment for the combined instrument panel and into the microphone bracket.
- Secure the cables using pieces of butyl tape under the combined instrument panel.
- Reinstall the combined instrument panel. Ensure that the cables from the mounting plate are on the right-hand side at the lower edge of the combined instrument panel. Ensure that the cables are secured.
- Reinstall the panel for the combined instrument panel. Align the mounting plate's cables in the filed cut-out.
- Pull the cable excess in towards the center console.
- Reinstall the rubber seal in the upper steering column cover.
- Reinstall the decor strip on the dashboard.
Installing the telephone holder
- Install the telephone holder on the mounting plate.
Connecting
- Turn the clip (1) a quarter turn anti-clockwise.
- Pull the panel out by the rear edge.
- Then pull the panel backwards until the hooks release.
- Remove the panel.
- Remove the screws and sound proofing bracket.
- Detach the sill trim panel at the front edge.
- Open the glovebox.
- Lift the two hooks on each side past the lugs.
- Detach the gas struts by pulling straight out.
Remove:
- the ten screws
- the connector for the glove box lighting
- the glove box
- Connect the antenna cable (1) to the short cable (2) from the telephone holder mounting plate.
- Pull the microphone cable (3) further towards the glove box.
- Cut the protective casing approximately 120 mm on the car's cable harness (the one that the antenna cable for the radio is positioned in).
- Connect the adapter cable's green and gray connector (1) to the vehicle's cable harness (2).
- The connectors (3) are later connected to the radio.
- Position the connected gray connector up to the left and the green connector at the bottom in the middle so that they are not obstructive when installing the radio.
Applies to cars with external amplifier
- Take the gray connector located up to the left in the center console.
- Remove the foam tape.
- Disconnect the connectors and connect the two gray adapter cable connectors.
- Reinstall the foam tape.
- Take the mute relay from the kit and connect the connectors.
- Tape a thick piece of foam tape around the relay and the connectors.
- Take a large tie strap from the kit and secure the relay to the bracket for the A/C unit.
Installing the control module
- Tape the two foam pieces of tape to the control module.
- Connect the connectors as illustrated.
- the adapter cable (1) to the control module
- the cable (2) from the microphone.
- cable (3) from the power supply and mute relay
- the cable (4) from the telephone holder.
- Position the control module on top of the member.
- Take a tie strap from the kit and secure the excess cable to the inside of the center console.
Reinstall:
- the radio and dashboard environment panel
- the gear lever panel
- the dashboard end panel
- the glove box
- the sound barrier
- the side panel for the center console.
- Turn the ignition key to position II.
- Reconnect the battery negative lead
