Checking Interference from the Solenoid
Radio interference from the solenoid in the gear selector assembly
Removing the center console
Move the front seats to the rearmost positions.
Remove the side panels.
Turn the screw 1/4 of a turn.
Fold out the panel by the screw.
Pull the panel backwards (see the arrow) to remove it.
Removing the gear selector lever boot and the connector
Hold the boot. Lift the boot straight up to remove the panel.
Remove the ashtray from the rear edge of the center console.
Remove the ashtray holder (press the two catches inwards).
Take out the holder.
Remove and separate the connector for the 12V socket from the holder.
Remove and separate the connector for the handset from the holder (if applicable).
Separating the panel and top panel
Press in the four catches.
Remove the panel from the top panel for the gear selector lever boot.
Removing the panel (1) over the parking brake lever
Open the cover for the center console armrest.
Press in the catch. Use a screwdriver.
Lift the panel upwards and forwards.
Remove the rubber hand brake handle cover.
Remove the handbrake boot.
Removing the center console
Remove:
- the coin holder (if applicable)
- the CD rack from the center console locker
- the four screws for the bracket. Pull the front edge up, out of the mountings.
Removing the center console
Move the gear selector lever forward.
Apply the parking brake. If necessary release by adjusting (see the method in VIDA under replacing brake shoes).
Bend out the rear edge of the center console.
Carefully move the console forward past the parking brake lever.
Lift out the center console.
Removing the transmission cable
Move the gear selector to position P. This is to access the cable locking.
Remove the mechanical cable lock from the gear selector lever. Use pliers to pull off the lock from the bushing (see the arrow in the right-hand inset illustration).
Pull the locking plate, that holds the solenoid, straight up from the mounting. See the arrow in the left hand inset illustration.
Removing the solenoid from the gear selector assembly
Press the connector (at the left-hand arrow) straight out of the gear selector assembly, to the right-hand side.
Remove the tape holding the wiring. Pull the wiring out of the cut-out in the gear selector assembly.
Carefully pull the solenoid, with its wiring, out of the gear selector assembly. It is only possible to pull the wires far enough to turn the solenoid (see right-hand arrow).
Remove the diode
Remove the diode positioned between the cable terminals on the underside of the solenoid.
Cut as close to the cable terminals as possible.
Note! The solenoid wire cannot be extended as far as shown in the drawing.
Trimming the gear selector assembly
Check if the illustrated shaded section of the gear selector assembly is left at the rubber pad end of the solenoid.
Trim the remaining section from the gear selector assembly (if applicable) to prevent the solenoid getting stuck in the gear selector assembly.
Installing the solenoid
Install the solenoid in gear selector assembly.
Secure the solenoid using the locking plate.
Pull up the connector. Press the connector into place in the gear selector assembly.
Position the wiring in the groove in the gear selector assembly.
Tape the wiring in position.
Installing the transmission cable
Install the mechanical cable lock onto the bushing on the mechanical cable.
Press the mechanical cable into place on the gear selector assembly.
Check that the mechanical cable is secure.
Installing the center console
Apply the parking brake.

Installing the center console
Pull up the front edge of the console.
Secure the console in its mountings.
Tighten the screws to 10 Nm.
Install the CD rack.
Install the coin holder (if applicable).
Adjust the parking brake if necessary (see the method in VIDA under replacing brake shoes).
Installing the cover panel
Install the parking brake lever boot.
Install the parking brake handle cover.
Installing the cover panel and the connector
Install the cover panel over the top panel for the boot. Press together.
Fold in the front edge of cover panel.
Press the cover panel down into the center console.
Connect the connector on the ashtray panel.
